I sort of want to wear my own comfy clothes, and I did hear that nightgowns are more convenient for "checks", but I'm having trouble finding nursing pj's and nightgowns. Is this what you wore? Where did you get them?
I wore nursing tanks with a button up sweater and pj pants. After ds was born I didn't have to take my pants off if thats what you are worried about. They just came in to smoosh my belly, no other kind of "checks."
Just get comfortable normal nightgowns or pjs that button down the front if you want. I like Calida brand. Honestly, I packed them in my hospital bag, but I wore the hospital gowns.
Honestly, I just wore the hospital gown. With teh bleeding and whatnot I just figured it was best not to chance ruining my own clothes. Besides, it was only for about 2 days and it made the checks by the nurses easier.
Going home I just wore some comfy pj pants and a nursing top so that when I got home I could just relax on the cuch and bf my lil girl.
The hospital gown. They had special nursing gowns that tied up in the front.
This and I had a robe that I would wear over it. I didn't wear any pants because of the heavy bleeding, it was easier to use the restroom with just the nursing gown and robe on.

I wore a few night gowns and tank tops. I had a C/S and didn't want anything touching the incision at first. The nightgown made it easy for bfing and I felt more like myself. I hated the hospital gowns and they way they fit. I changed the next day when I got to shower and get up and move around.
I wore the hospital gown most of the time; it was just easier for the checks and going to the bathroom. When we had guests (other than close family) I put on jeans and a button up shirt with nursing bra underneath.
i spent hours the day before i went into the hospital looking for a suitable nightgown at the mall -- bu i ended up just wearing the hospital gown. i was bleeding so much i didn't want my clothes to get dirty -- oh, and you're incontinent at first too! yuck.
The nurses checked me for the first 12 hours for bleeding (checked the pad) and also my pernium. After 12 hours, they just pushed on my stomach to feel for my uterus.
I wore tank tops and v-neck/low cut shirts for easy access.
Oh, Baby Bean! We will always miss you! With us for 6w3d -- June 9, 2008. 2 years of TTC, Seeing RE Feb 09, 2 medicated TI cycles - BFNs, 3 medicated IUIs - BFNs, back to medicated TI cycles until IVF approval, IVF approved in March 2010. BFP on last medicated TI cycle.
I wore the hospital gown the first night, and the next day I wore a tank top and yoga pants, I did bring a night gown though just in case I had to have an emergency c-section.
I wore cheap $10 v-neck jersey dresses that let me pull over the top to nurse. I wore one while I was in labour and then I had an emergency c-section so they had to switch me into a hospital gown with an open back for the spinal.
I changed right back into one of my dresses as soon as I could and it was sooo much nicer. I was thankful that I brought dresses too because there was nothing to put pressure on my incision.
They were kinda like this style:
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

I purchased 2 nightgowns in advance, just for this purpose. I actually wore one for delivery so I didn't have to feel so weird putting a hospital gown on. They were a soft terry-cloth material, one in hot pink and one in turqoise blue, and zipped down the front. It worked perfect for me. Convenient and practical, yet I still felt "cute" and not completely out of my comfort zone. I bought them at TJ Maxx so I wouldn't spend a whole lot, in case one got ruined.

I felt good enough to put on my own jeans just a few hours after she was born. Checks weren't a big deal.
I wore jeans, and those normal shelf bra tanks since I BF.
I wore nursing bras, tank tops and yoga pants.
They really didn't check me much down there, just felt my tummy to make sure my uterus was deflating.

Same at my hospital. But the day after I had E, i wore yoga pants, a nursing tanks and a zip up hoodie.
