I didn't, and there are times I thought it would have been nice to have one, but I just didn't want to pay for it. I would place a boppy around my son when he was learning to sit up so that if he fell over he wouldn't hit his head, but they at least need to have some control before you can do that, where with a bumbo you can put them in earlier.
I did not put the bumbo on my registry but if I see a cheap one on craigslist I might consider it. A friend of mine had this and she said her baby's legs were too chunky to fit in it. On the other hand another friend of mine loved it.

Best purchase ever. We used this more than most other purchases. I got a bumbo and tray off of craigslist for $25, but it would be worth the full price since I've used it every day for the past 4 1/2 months. My son loved sitting up and this helped, and I used to keep him still while I used the bathroom/shower, etc., and also as a high chair (a low chair) once he started solids. Now he can push himself out of it, so I only use it for feeding (he'll sit still while eating, but I leave it on the floor to feed him just in case).
I would buy it used if you are unsure about it. It seems like ppl either love this or think it was a waste of money!
I bought a bouncy chair instead of a Bumbo. My GF said her son always filled his pants when she put him in it and that it would shoot up his back because of the positioning! She cursed it
Our friends have twins and use theirs all the time, so it seemed worthwhile. But, we didn't think having someone spend money on a new one was necessary. I think they're like $30, so we bought a like-new one with a tray on Craigslist for like $15.
We're not going to get one. I know some people love them but we just plan on using a bouncy chair or boppy once she gets older. I saw an article once that said the bumbos are questionable because they delay muscle development since the LO doesn't have to do any work to sit up. That made sense to DH and I so we're just going to avoid them.
I would not buy one new. $40 for a piece of foam seems a bit ridiculous to me. I did get one at a garage sale for about $3. I see them on Craigs List all the time.
We got one and liked it. DS loved being able to sit up and play and since his head was flat it helped give him time with his head up and not resting on something.
Using it is like anything else, never put the baby in it and leave them unattended. I would sit with him and play with toys, we had the tray too.
I think it was worth it and plan to resell it or regift it.

not necessary. Thought about it when my son started using one at day care but it was littlerally a 2 month windown and it wasn't crucial. You quickly realize that most of these things have a 2 -3 month peak life so choose carefully or else you just end up with a lot of stuff.
I love the bumbo seat. Since my LO sleeps on his back my ped doctor said I needed to up his tummy time to over 1 hour a day. That's almost impossible- even using the boppy and the floor - with the bumbo it is almost easy and he loves to sit in it. We sit on the floor together and it is awesome when I need him to hold his head up but cook dinner or something else. Unless your LO is big enough to almost stand on their own they can't fall out *unless you put it where it doesn't belong like a table or something*. We got one as a registry gift (with the tray).
I've heard such mixed reviews with some LO's loving it and some hating it. Since they're so expensive, we bought one from Craigs List for $10...so if he hates it, it didn't cost us that much.
When I first saw these I thought they were totally ridiculous and unnecessary. But I ended up getting one from a friend and we tried it out...DD LOVES it!!!! She laughs and smiles whenever I sit her in it, and supposedly it encourages them to sit on their own. I would register for it, if not for only another place to put your LO when your arms are about to fall off from holding her.
I don't think there is much to that delayed development thing - my son was sitting up before all the other babies his age and he used the bumbo a lot. He just loved sitting (and hated tummy time). But he has the strongest abs, I swear!
The baby I watch has one, and I hate it. She always looks super uncomfortable in it and I hardly ever put her in it. She arches her back constantly and it just doesn't seem safe. She's only four months old and can almost tip it (and is not a big baby at all).
I did not use one with my daughter and I don't regret it. We had a high chair that snapped on to one of our kitchen chairs (Fisher Price SpaceSaver) and used that when we needed to put DD down (in addition to the bouncy chair and Boppy). It reclines back pretty far, so it is suitable for infants.
I didn't register for it but was given one. I lost the receipt for it so I kept it. I'm glad I did. I've been using it for almost four months now and it's been great. DD hasn't liked her bouncer/chair since she was about 4.5 months old so the bumbo is what I put her in when I cook/shower/etc. The boppy pillow never worked with keeping her up until now (she is almost sitting on her own). I wouldn't buy one yourself and I probably wouldn't even register for it just bc I tried to keep "stuff" to a minimum. But if you can get one super cheap or borrow one you might find you like it.
We didn't register for one with DS, but my neighbor let me use hers. If you want one, I would suggest mom to mom sales or garage sailing for one, or even CL.
There was a post on here once by an occupational therapist who wrote about how bad Bumbos are for babies. I don't know that I would have registered for one anyway, but now I definitely won't. Of course, I know plenty of babies who used it are are just fine.
We put this item on our registry in place of the Bumbo. Some friends have told me they loved this, especially since it can be used longer than the Bumbo.

DS likes his. The tray is a must have for us (too bad I lost a part to it, grrr)
If I did it again, I would get one used.
