Poll: Do you use your LATCH system?

It's such a pain. I can never get it buckled/unbuckled without injuring myself and we move carseats around a lot. (We fold/unfold seats, switch to grandma's car, move them around to fit more passengers, etc)

I just use the seatbelts. I thought it was just my truck, but I've tried in my mom's and my sister's cars and I can't do those either.

This is a test. This is only a test.

Re: Poll: Do you use your LATCH system?

  • We do use latch. For us, it's a lot easier than using the seatbelt.
  • Loading the player...
  • We do, only because we rarely switch out the car seats. I have 2 marathon's for my car, DH has 2 evenflo's for his car, MIL has 2 cosco's for her car.
  • We use the Latch system but we never move our carseats. I wouldn't even know how to use the seat belts...LOL.
  • Yes we love our latch system and it's so frustrating when friends don't have the latch system when we take other's cars.

  • I don't even know how to use it. We still use the base and our infant carrier.

  • yes, in our car Lucy's seat wouldn't be safe if we didn't use the latch (the seatbelt lets the carseat move around toom much)

but we don't move it from car to car....

  • LATCH. As already stated, it seems much more stable with the LATCH, but we also don't move the seats out very much.

  • Yes, we use both.

  • Yes, I always use the latch buckles. It was a pain with her infant seat, but I think it's a lot easier than a seat belt now that she's in her convertible. When I move her seat I loosen the latch belt, latch it in, then tighten the belt again.

  • The care we have the carseat in 99% of the time is a 2000 and doesn't even have LATCH. Our other car is a 2004 and does have LATCH, so we use it when the car seat is in it.

  • Yes. We use latch, but it doesn't go from car to car
  • I used LATCH with the Chicco Keyfit, but I don't with the convertible seats.  I agree that the seatbelt is actually easier, and from what I understand, both are equally safe.
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.

Oh good. I'm not the only bad parent. Wink

We used LATCH for awhile with Nate's seat, but I couldn't get the seat any more secure than with the seatbelt, sooooo I saved myself the hassle.

  • We use the LATCH, but we bought 2 car seats so that we wouldn't have to move them around. She rides in mine and DH's car equally and we didn't want to be fiddling with them during Maine winter, plus we got a good deal!  If I have needed to ride in someone else's car at this time she still fits into the infant carrier so I use the seat belt there.  As she gets older we will probably try to keep her in one of our cars as much as possible so we don't have to move them.

We have car seats for DH's car. And we mostly take mine, anyways. It's just that we end up playing Musical Seats quite often. I have no idea why we move them around so much, but it happens ALL the time, lol...

Your DH (or you for that matter) must be more patient than mine.  DH got those suckers in there once and said he wasn't doing that again!  I haven't even tried to take them out, but we haven't left DD with anyone in a long time either so it hasn't come up.

Oh, that's funny! DH install a carseat? He has NO idea how. Which I find hysterical since he does auto body/mechanical work for a living. The carseats are definitely my job, lol

  • We use the LATCH system in both cars, but it is very rare for us to have to change them.  DH has a set in his car and I have a set.  The girls sit behind the driver and passenger seat, and I put Josh and his friends in the 3rd row. (They like to be far away from us, and I like to be far away from the teenager smell.)

We had a friend inspect our carseats and he actually took the seat belts off and showed us how to use the LATCH in DH's car.  (He is a cop, and he does the once a month car seat checks.)

  • Our car is old (95!) and doesn't have LATCH. His seat is nice and secure with the regular buckle.

  • We use it. Our latch is pretty easy.

  • We use it in my car because it gets much tighter in there for some reason, but yes it's a pain. I also drive a 2 door car so I don't ever take it out. DH has an older car with no latch so we use the belt and it was so easy!

  • Yes.  With my DD's seat it's the only way I can get it secure enough.  With my DS's seat I can do pretty well with the seatbelt, but just feel like the LATCH is way more secure.

The safest way to install your seat is whichever way is easiest for you to get the tightest fit. Don't feel bad using the seatbelt if its easier for you.

We have them installed in my car with the LATCH because they don't come out much. If I'm installing them in someone else's car, I use the seatbelt because its easiest for me to get it tight.

  • We do use latch even when the car seat is temporarily moved to Grandparent's vehicle. It's happened often enough that the hooks now move easier than when the car seat was brand new.

The only time just seat belts are used is when Ex takes LO for his visitation weekend which has only happened 3 times since mid-october. God forbid the latch system should scratch on his brand new truck...I told him I wouldn't mind so long as he actually remembers to tighten the seat belts rather than just lay them in the slots...

  • We use the LATCH system for DS's FF convertible.  But the seatbelt for the infant base for DD.  We do move the seats fairly regularly, but DS's is actually easier to install with a LATCH in our car.  But, we use belts in other cars.

Of course for DD we just take out the seat, not the base, and use belts in other cars.

  • When I installed DS' convertible seat, I used the LATCH.  We only have one car, and my mom has a convertible seat of her own in her car, so I don't plan on moving it around.

  • If I was switching the seat in and out a lot, then no, I probably wouldn't.  We don't move the carseat, though, so I DO use latch.
