Two Under 2

When did you start bathing your 2u2 together?

For some weird reason, this got posted in babies 3-6 months!!

I was wondering when you started.  DS is very close to sitting unassisted, and I was hoping to start bathing them together with maybe a bath seat for him (I don't trust him to stay upright AND I don't trust DD to not splash him!)

I'm sure we still have several weeks before it'll happen, but wanted to get an idea of what other 2u2 moms have done.

Thanks!

  • we started when DD was about 6 months old.  She could sit up for a bit with out needing help.  I kept the water low for a bit because if it was too high it would cause her to tip.  I usually bathe everyone together, but when I first put her in I washed everyone else first, took the two younger ones out, and then let her bathe with the older one.  I think she was about 7 months when I started letting her bathe with the youngest.

  • DD2 is almost 8 months and our kids are not ready to bathe together. However, she is just now starting to sit up unassisted and DD1 likes to play and splash in the bath. I know other moms here have started much sooner than me, I just don't think it would be safe in my case.

I would trust your gut and then give it a try, being very vigilant obviously. If it doesn't work or you feel they aren't really ready, just hold off for another couple months.

  • We started around 3 months. I put DS2 in the Bumbo in the tub. (I know, not the intended use for the Bumbo, but I was always right there. And we kept the water at a low level so the Bumbo didnt float). We did it like that until DS2 was about 8 months. At that point he could sit in the tub, we just had to watch him like a hawk because he wasnt too sturdy yet.
  • we started bathing all 3 together when the twins were about 6mo and sitting on their own pretty well - but we did (and still do) use bath seats for the babies - to help keep them in place.

DH does the bath and i take one out at a time to dry/dress/put in bed... it's a 2-person job for sure.

  • When my 2nd (or 3rd) was around 10 months. I just wasn't coordinated enough to do it before that.

  • If I remember right he was 5 months and for a while I layed a towel down in the tub and barely filled it up, so that the LO could lay there.  He could sit up really well at 6 months so I was able to fill it up more.  DH is at school many nights, so bathing them together was the best option!

You're lucky! It's a 1-person job in my house. DH isn't always home at bathtime, or he's home and on calls...... :-(

Same for us -- DH is gone often with work (military) so bathtime is just me, most nights.  I will be glad when I can bathe them both together instead of the tub shuffle of DS in, DS washed, DS out, DD in, DD washed, DD out.  :)

  • You're not anywhere near close to bathing them together by yourself....so I wouldn't get too excited yet :) It'll be a few months before your DS can sit in WATER by himself - it is way different than sitting unassisted in the carpet.

I'd say DD was about 8 months old? And even then it's pretty hard with DS flopping around in there...the slightest wave could send her flying.

I can bathe them by myself - and DH has started them by himself while I've been out and then we usually each take one after to dress. I can't imagine doing every tub by myself - good luck!!!

  • 3 months.  LOL.  We put her infant tub in next to him.  He loved helping and it kept him kind of contained.  At 5 months we put her in a bath seat (which DS stayed in until 18 months) and they love bath time!

  • We haven't done it yet.  We do every other night baths and usually have them on opposite schedules, so every night I am giving someone a bath.

  • I've been bathing mine together since DD#2 was 2 weeks old (they are 15 months apart)

I would just hold her and wash her while #1 played in the water. Then took her out, dried her and dressed here right there on the bathroom floor. I usually had her bouncy chair right next to me too. Once she was done, I took care of #1

This is still our routine now. We've never had issues. #1 learned pretty quickly not to splash #2
