I completely understand why you aren't a fan, but I don't think it is a horrible toy. In fact, I think it may be a positive thing in a few situations. For example: my sis works in a NICU daily - this toy would be a nice way for her LO to "play mommy". Also, if I was PG w/ multiples and already had a toddler I may purchase this toy for them to become familiar with in case their new siblings were in the NICU - that way they wouldn't be scared of them.

Toddlers weren't allowed in the NICU and I don't think it's horrible. It just struck me funny, I guess.

but... after reading the comments above mine, I do think this doll could be used as a learning tool for a sibling that has a brother/sister in the hospital and maybe can take some of the fear away that goes w/ that.

Yeah, those were my thoughts exactly. If the toddler can't go visit Baby in the hospital, all the more reason to let them play with this as a way to explain where Baby is and what's happening to him/her and role-play. I do think the stork is creepy though!
I should add, we got our boys a FP medical kit at 18m, after their 18m well visit when I realized Alex could use some extra help in getting over his extreme fear of the doctor's office! It actually helped quite a bit, and with his experience over Thanksgiving week with the ambulance/ER/PICU/hospital it actually really helped that he had some familiarity and would actually get excited when he would see and recognize a stethoscope, thermometer, blood pressure cuff, etc. So after that I definitely see value in toys that involve medical role-play. (Our boys use the things in the medical kit on themselves, each other, their stuffed animals, baby doll, us, etc.)
Eh, my kids weren't in the NICU but in my view it is not a NICU set....it is a newborn set & I think it is great for a sibling or just a kid who is really into their dolls & doing lots of 'care' for them, plus you can use the medical tool things on other dolls, on each other, etc just like pp said. plenty of people get medical sets for their kids, I don't get the big deal if it is paired up with a 'newborn' doll & bed.
Honestly, I think my DDs would love it. They've had a FP medical kit since they were about 11 months and they love playing with it and "know" how to use the stethoscope and otoscope. This just seems like a way to combine dolls (which they love too) and medical stuff. BTW, the were both in the NICU for about a week.

I have to admit I don't like it. I can't explain why but it makes me sad and I just can't look at it. I guess I might be strange or the memories of NICU/hospital care are just too recent and hard still.
Re: Why would anyone think this toy was a good idea?
What am I missing? I don't see the connection to the NICU?? (my girls were in the NICU too)
It just looks like a baby doll with dr equipment... The only reason I don't like the toy is because the baby doll doesn't look cuddly!

That, too.
Yeah, that's weird to me. The creepy stork, especially.
Kinda like preemie cabbage patch kids...
