Hi everyone!! I was just curious if there was anyone out there having their baby or had their baby at Riddle. I am currently a patient there and so far I love the doctors and the overall experience I've had there. Any imput??
I delivered both my babies at Riddle and I was happy with experiences. With my second baby they actually had a lactation consultant but (of course) she stopped by my room while I was in labor to tell me that she was going to be on vacation and unavailable. I'm glad they have a lactation consultant because the nurses weren't supportive of breastfeeding at all.
I go to the practice with Dr. Shima and Dr. Seeney, right at the Main Hospital. So far, I really like it, I was being seen at Jefferson which was just a horrible experience. I'm a little nervous about the nurses not being helpful with breastfeeding though. I signed up to take a breastfeeding class but I was thinking about cancelling it thinking that the nurses would teach me after the baby is born. Now I'm a little torn on what to do. I'm also signed up for the Childbirth class they offer. Any other classes you recommend?
I used to go to Dr. Shima. I went to him for years but then I had a bad experience with him so I switched to the practice with Dr. Tirado (she's in the Outpatient Pavilion, I think).
DH and I took the childbirth class. It was ok, you get a book and some handouts that are helpful. When we took the class, we thought we'd get a tour of the Birth Center but, because it is such a secure area, we they don't give tours - at least they didn't 4 years ago when I took the class.
Uh oh, bad experience, I don't like the sound of that...
It says in the description of the childbirth class that we are supposed to get a tour of the Birth Center and the rooms and all, we better, that's part of the reason I'm paying the money and taking the class!!!
A friend of a friend gave birth there and LOVED it. Also, I have heard from a nurse who worked at Riddle that the birth center is a great place.
According to their website all nurses are trained to help with lactation issues and they also have lactation consultants on staff. I would assume that if the nurses in the birth center are trained for aiding women in breast feeding they would also support breast feeding. But, then again I have yet to give birth there.
I am also looking into the breastfeeding and childbirth classes offered there. I have read that taking a breastfeeding class beforehand can increase your success with breastfeeding, which will definitely come in handy if someone isn't immediately available to come and help you when that baby needs their first feeding. I also read on Riddle's website that the childbirth class includes a birth center tour...so thankfully it seems as though that is something that they allow now.
I've heard a lot of good things about Riddle from a couple different people so, hopefully it's the same for me. I'm due March 22, so we signed up for the breastfeeding class in Jan and the Childbirth class in Feb. When are you due?
I delivered in Riddle in June 2010 and had a great experience. All the nurses and doctors were wonderful.
We took the childbirth class in April and thought it was very useful. They gave a good insight on what kind of process the labor actually is. And we had the tour in the Birth Place. We got to see the labor and delivery room and recovery room. And we were able to ask all the questions we had in mind.
I'm also delivering at Riddle, but this is my first. I have been happy with the staff at Granite Run OB(Yanez, White, McConnell). I have heard alot of positive things about Riddle from my patients who have delivered there!! THinking about the parenting and birthing classes in March!!
I am planning on delivering at Riddle and go to Isaac, Hyatt, Tirado and Sincavage in the outpatient section. Very happy with all of them so far. Taking the childbirth classes starting March 2nd...due March 19th, so hopefully we can fit them all in!
Re: Riddle Hospital
I'm delivering there. So far I've been happy. I delivered at Penn Hospital last time so I`ll be interested to see what Riddle is like.
What OB practice are you a patient at?

I am due 5/5 and are looking into the childbirth and breastfeeding classes in February and March.
Since this post I have spoken with another woman I work with who gave birth 2 times at Riddle and absolutely LOVES the birth center there.
Are you a first time Momma?
