For those of you that breastfeed, did you purchase a nursing cover?
I can't imagine a time when I'll be out of the house nursing right now, but then again I can't imagine a time when my babies will be out of my belly right now either
I picked one up from Target for $3 when we went to visit DHs family in another state. I knew we'd be around a lot of his family and I didn't want to be so exposed in front of people I don't know that well (like his creepy grandpa). Worked great!
With O, I was only doing one baby at a time and he'd freak if I covered his head, so I didn't use it. I'm thinking this time, if I'm ever tandem nursing (I suppose it's easier to switch off in public), it would be nice. You'd have to expose a lot more to tandem, right?
So I haven't given it away yet. I see deals on those uddercovers fairly regularly where they're free except for shipping. I'd maybe get one of those and see if you use it before investing in something you might like more.
ABSOLUTELY! I nursed my son for 14 months, the nursing cover was cooler and MUCH easier then trying to cover up with blankets or worrying about them falling off! The pop up opening makes it so easy to SEE the baby and what you are doing, and also give the baby some air. I plan to tandem nurse the twins but I think if I'm in public I will have to do one at a time.
Don't waste your time on the uddercovers. I bought a few (just pay shipping) during my last pregnancy. What a waste of money! They are so cheap and don't work well. I never ended up even using them because they were so horrible!
Absolutely LOVE my hooter hider bebe au lait. You can find them on ebay for roughly $20. I think I paid even less for mine. WORTH EVERY PENNY! It's the only nursing coverup I use! You can survive with one but having 2 would be nice. You will end up getting milk on it and it's nice to have a clean one to rotate into the diaperbag.
I second Bebe au lait....Mainly because I could tandem feed with my twin nursing pillow, and the bebe au lait was wide enough to cover both babies. This came in handy when I tandem fed at my mom's house. Pretty much anywhere else I felt like a freakshow because everyone stares at you b/c you are nursing two. With a giant, giant pillow.

I also used the cover when we had guests over.
Glad to hear it worked for you with two! I wasn't sure if it would be wide enough! They are easy to make if you sew or know someone who sews. I was thinking of asking someone to make me one so it could be wider. I've always felt like they should just go all the way around you so you don't have to worry about anything showing. As my son got older sometimes he would pull it to the side to peek out! LOL but for the most part it was great and I loved it!
I haven't used mine since I started tandem feeding (5 months ago). I prefer to go to another room. I would feel like a freak show / circus act if I didn't leave the room. I have no problem w/ one, but w/ 2 babies it's just akward.

I don't use mine to nurse because my babies would just pull it off, but I second (or third) the bebe au lait over the uddercover, and I use mine to pump in the car without completely exposing myself to truckers and commuters

purchased one when I had DD1, and never used it. I nursed discreetly and didn't care if anyone saw the 1/2 second it took for her to latch on. With the twins, I don't nurse in public. If someone is at my house I don't want to tandem feed in front of, I go in another room. If I'm not at my house, I'm at someone else's home, and feed them one at a time. I still don't take the babies out in public much, because until now, they screamed too much.
I did try a nursing cover with the twins once, but it was made for nursing one, and I might as well of thrown a blanket over their heads.

My girlfriends and I said the same thing. You could make them in a flash and in cute patterns. I actually found later though, that the pattern was distracting to the girls! I had a black and white floral print and it was very distracing, even from the inside out! I think solid black might be ideal.
Yes- my BF researched every nursing cover and found that those were the widest so she bought that one for me. I used it until about 5 months. Around 5 months the girls started nursing for 8 minutes or less, so I would just go to another room, rather than risk them revealing me to our guests or family!
To other posters, I often nursed in my car. My girlfriends who have children got started before me, so they have 4 yo, 3 yo, etc. So I go out with them often for apple picking, or other activities. If we're on the go, I would nurse the girls in the passenger seat of my car using my twin nursing pillow. I just needed a friend to hand the babies to me. Then I would use the nursing cover in the car. I pulled over at parks, the back parking lot of banks, etc. All kinds of places!! It is possible to nurse and tandem nurse and not be confined to your house. You just have to get out there. I was nervous at first, but I'm not the type to stay in one place. I am on the move- always!
Re: nursing covers - worth it or not?

Umm yep! I wish I'd had two as well.
