Parenting after 35

so i hate pink (the color), right?

well i do- just in case you couldn't tell by the lack of pink in Sabrina's pics. anyway, i went to target during lunch and got me and the babe some boots for cold/snow. i got her "boy" boots! i'm sure there will come a time (though i really hope not) when she wants pink pink pink shiit so right now, when she doesn't care, she'll be wearing non-pink as much as possible. and my choices were soft pink, bright pink, or friggin CINDERELLA on top of the pink. or the boys boots- gray and/or black. it was a no brainer for me. i hope this doesn't come up in therapy later. ; D

  • I don't hate pink, but there's definitely pink overload with girls' stuff.  I used to buy Stella whatever I thought was cute whether they were boys' clothes or girls' clothes.  I wouldn't say she's a pinkaholic or anything now, but she will NOT wear boys clothes.  Even if it's a pair of jammies covered with cuddly puppies, if she thinks it's for a boy, she won't wear it.

  • I think someday she might think you were pretty cool for bucking the norms. I never had a Barbie and I thank my Mom now.

  • Poor Sabrina, Mommy won't let you dress like the pretty pretty princess you are. You can borrow some of Caroline's pink stuff, I'm sure she'll hate it all to spite me. Stick out tongue

  • Who does not need therapy these days anyway ; ) My two oldest boys favorite color was PINK!  Ha ha.

    Boy 1 2/06 - Boy 2 12/07 - Boy 3 9/09
  • Fair enough, though I must admit to loving pink and having to fight the urge to buy the boy pink stuff.
  • It is amazing how much pink is out there!  I'm finding myself more laid back with it than I would have expected, but I know what you're saying.  Plus, it seems to exclude other colors - I would love to find Ellie a simple purple sweatshirt to go with a pair of her leggings but no luck so far.
  • I fully admit that my favorite color is pink! That said, I try not to OD on pink stuff for M, and all the princess-y crap makes me nauseated. And so I'm sure that in a few years, she'll be all about the fluffy, ruffly princess stuff! ;)

  • My favorite color is actually blue and I am not personally very girly girl. However, after 19 years of boys - dinosaurs, snakes, trains, planes and automobiles - I am wallowing in the Princess-iness of it all. Layer on the frou frou ruffled pink on pink pretty, pretty princess poufs. If she is half the tomboy I was, she will blak at it all by kindergarden so I need to get it out of my system now.

I read the other day that pink used to be the color for boys. I think it was a victorian era thing, not sure.

  • I love pink and the princess stuff and I'm so jealous of my friends with girls! Once I couldn't resist the temptation and bought S a pair of pink footed pajamas, then put a picture of him wearing it on FB...that will come back to haunt him if he ever runs for office!

  • My favorite colors on DD are definitely blue which make her eyes stand out. I also love plain ole black & plain ol white.

I agree!  I try as much as possible to stay away from pink for DD, but it's near impossible.  Who says little girls have to wear pink anyway?

  • It might not come up in therapy but she might rebel as a teenager by going into pink overdrive, lol!!!
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • Some of Margaux' stuff is "boy's" stuff.  I'm one of those "gender is not binary" folks, though.  There's some cute stuff in the boys sections!

One of my nieces had coloring like Margaux', dark hair and olive skin, deep brown eyes.  My sister dressed her her in blacks and bold colors, she looked gorgeous... until she hit 4 and insisted on everything being fluffy pastel pink.  Luckily she outgrew it, but eh, what can you do?  :)
