could labor be near?

I am currently 36 weeks along with my first and am starting to feel like labor might be coming soon. Last week I lost my mucus plug over the course of about 3 days. Ever since then I have had massive amounts of vaginal fluids, sorry for the over share, and have even started to have to wear pads. I've had lots of braxton hicks contractions since week 23ish and haven't noticed an increase lately. When I saw my OB 2 weeks ago she said my cervix was really low. I'm not really sure what that means. I have another appt tomorrow so I'm sure she will check me then but I was just curious what all of you thought.

Re: could labor be near?

  • I lost my plug around 38/39 weeks but never went into labor (had to be induced at almost 42 weeks). I wore light pads from 2nd tri on (but was always a little paranoid about it!) so it could just be the increased discharge or pee. I'd definitely tell your ob about the amount of fluid you're losing. She may want to do an u/s to check your amniotic level.

  • I started to lose my mucus plug on a Wednesday and Alex made his arrival that Saturday. However, I know you can lose it way before the baby comes. Let us know what the Dr. says today.

  • I'm no help as I never lost my MP and never went into labor on my own. Heck, even after 18 hours on cervadil & pitocin I never even dialated past 1cm!

I have heard of women losing their MP early and it re-generating only to be lost again.

  • Well my appt was this afternoon and the OB agreed with me that my water hadn't actually broken. She said I haven't dilated any but that my cervix is extremely low and very very soft. Keeps sounding more and more like there is no way I will make it to my EDD jan 8th. She did say that it was normal to have a lot more vaginal fluids after you lose your mucus plug.

So I guess we will just wait and see if I make any progress at my appt next week.

  • I'm like Amelia, never lost the MP, never went into labor on my own, was induced at 40 weeks exactly, never dialated even after cervadil and pitocin for 14 hours of labor...so I have no idea what that's like :)

Sounds like you had a productive and positive appointment though :)
