ear tube mamas

Who else here has kiddos with tubes?  Did you notice any delay in them talking because of the ear infections?

Kai got them done a little less than 2 weeks ago.  Its been a world of difference, but wow are they gross.... I pulled a piece of nasty gunk out of his ear this morning.  Ewwww......

Re: ear tube mamas

  • Kate got hers back in June, she has done wonderfully with them.  She had an ear infection practically since birth, and nothing since the tubes.  I haven't noticed any delays, but she got them really young.

  • Liam got tubes put in about 2 months ago. He's been babbling in sentences it seems for awhile so I didn't see any difference. Unfortunately, we haven't heard any new words lately- he said teddy and kitty about a month ago. He's stuck on saying dada multiple times at various tones. I unfortunately got him chanting dada one time because we were waiting for DH to start eating dinner. Now, all he does is chant. He'll wake up and start saying dada dada as if he's cheering dada on the football field. Ugh - anyway. Tubes are suppose to help with speech development but my little man is a little behind in that category.

  • My LO got tubes put in around 9 mths and they've been great.  He does get some nasty gunk in his ears tho.  I sometimes notice a red tint to it and wonder if its blood.  He is also behind in the language department but I never though it was from ear tubes. hmmmm?
  • AJ got his in September and it's been a world of difference. He had profound hearing loss due to the buildup of fluid...once that was gone, he was like a different child. I am certain he'd have had a speech delay if we hadn't done the tubes when we did.
