Yes we were at Babies R Us. I don't mind buying multiple brands, but my concern is that you are supposed to have a warmer since microwaving is out of the question. What if the brand bottle baby decides they like doesn't have a corresponding warmer and what if the warmer we end up with doesn't fit the bottles?
I'm also worried about a breast pump. I will definitly try breastfeeding even though I know that is up to the baby as well. These things are so expensive. I guess I am overwhelmed at what is out there and if we really need everything people say we need.
THESE Are the only type we use. They come in the small size and a larger 10 ounce size for when they get older. We never got a warmer/microwaved anything. I always just got a hot cup of water and put the bottle in it before I'd start getting Emily up and ready...this way it had time to warm up. Keep it simple....when its 2am and you're exhausted the last thing you are going to want to fuss with is making your bottle warmer work....just my thoughts anyways... :-)
We were overwhelmed as well! We went with the Playtex Vent-Aire as we've heard lots of good things from them. Zac loved them; he didn't like the small 5oz Gerber cheapies b/c if you screwed the lid on too tight he couldn't get any milk and the nipple would flatten and he'd just smack the side of the bottle like something was wrong with it. He's never been fussy/had any problems with the Vent-Aire and found them really easy to hold.
As far as breastpumps go, you'll still want to pump to keep your supply up even though you're breastfeeding, so you'll need one either way if you're not doing formula only. I had bought the Playtex Petite which all you really need is the pump and the attachments, and they pretty much fit ANY size bottle opening, small or large, so it's nice to have that option as I just bought the cheapie Gerber bottles to store pumped milk in the fridge until I needed to freeze it in the Lanisoh Freezer Bags for storage. It worked out really well and didn't cost a crazy amount. Will definitely go this route again with the next baby.
As for bottle warmers, we have the "in the car" travel one that fits any size/type of bottle, but also plugs into a reg. outlet too and honestly we've never used it! If needed we just turn the faucet on as hot as it gets and run water in a bowl in the sink and put the bottle in the bowl until it's warm (only about 3-5 mins).
Dr. Browns are the best....I tried all the others with my first born and nothing worked with gas and reflux except Dr. Browns....I recommend only these and will use them with my second as well!!
