If you exclusively pump... bottle rec?

I haven't decided if I'm going to breast feed these twins or not...  I did BF my first set of twins (now 5 yo) and it wasn't a good experience.  They were premies, I never produced enough milk, they had a hard time feeding, etc.  I did it for 8 weeks then switched over to formula.

I've been thinking about exclusively pumping with these twins.  If you EP, what bottles did you use to feed from?  I have a good breast pump (Medela) and used the Medela ones that hooked right up to the pump.  Are those the best to feed from?  It's been SO long since I've had to think about this stuff.... I'm at a loss when it comes to BFing/pumping and I'm sure there are new, better products out there than there were 5 years ago.

Thanks!

Re: If you exclusively pump... bottle rec?

  • you can use any bottle - doesn't matter what pump.

You'll want something BPA free - which pretty  much all bottles made now are (just 2yrs ago they were not).  You'll also want to replace all plastic parts of your pump (tubing/flanges, etc) with BPA free parts, too.

we used the MAM bottles- i loved them... they have an air vent system but not too many parts (like Dr. Browns) and don't leak (like Avent). We were very happy with them... but your babies will let you know what bottles they want - so don't get too many of anything just in case.

i EP'd for my first son for 2 months and only for 4 weeks for the twins - it was too much work having two babies + a toddler to look after - i wanted that time back and my body back so i stopped EP'ing after 4w when DH went back to work.

    Good luck!

  • I EP'd toward the end of bf'ing for a while.  I used a Medela pump and transferred the milk to Dr. Brown's bottles.  We've just always used Dr. Brown's since we had our 1st because they turned out to be the ones that helped his tummy troubles.

  • We used Dr.Browns too.  I had the medela Symphony and I could actually pump directly into the bottles then attach the nipples if I was in a rush.

  • I EP and we use Dr. Brown's bottles. I do wish that I had researched a bit more, and instead used the playtex drop ins because you can pump right into the drop in which would have been great for when I'm at work.
  • I EP'd for a year. I found that the cheapo Evenflo or Gerber bottles worked great for us. They didn't leak and they hooked right up to my pump.
  • I use the Dr. Brown bottles and have really liked them. They will also hook up to the Medela pump so I can pump right into them without transferring.
  • Any bottle with a standard neck will fit your pump parts- Medela, Dr Browns, Evenflo, and Gerber all do at least (I haven't tried any of the others).  Our girls took to the cheap Gerber bottles and nipples the fastest, so that's what we've stuck with.

  • I have the Medela pump in style advance pump and I use Dr. Brown's bottles. I sometimes will pump into the bottles and put the nipples on them and feed the twins.
