3rd Trimester

28 weeks and she's already turned?

Had my last montly checkup yesterday.....everything looks good, and during the ultrasound I was told that our little girl is already head down. I have no clue how soon they are supposed to turn, but since then, everyone I mention that to is convinced that she's now coming early.

This may sound dumb, but is the fact that she's head down in my 28th week REALLY a sign that she may come early? Or are people just losing the filter on their mouths and trying to make me nervous?

  • in all honesty, my dr doesn't even check if baby is head down until 36ish weeks because they can turn over again.  at 28w the baby still has quite a bit of room to turn so i wouldn't worry about it.

  • I'm no expert but IMO it means nothing...  I am 28w too and I can feel my baby girl doing complete flips in there.  She was head down at your appointment but could flip over tomorrow and wouldn't be anymore.  I think that babies aren't in their final resting positions until they are actually coming out.  I've heard that breech babies flip days before delivery and vice versa.

  • Nope. She could still turn again - there is a lot of time left.
  • Our little guy has been head down since about 18 weeks. I don't think it means anything except maybe that he likes hanging out upside-down? He'll probably be the kid that loves hanging by his knees on the monkey bars just like his mom.

  • I don't think it really means much.  My baby has already turned too.  And, w/my DS he also turned early (about 28/29 weeks)-he was about 2 weeks early, but I actually think they were off on his due date a little.  I think the baby can still turn/flip a couple times in the next few weeks.

  • According to my doctors and every ultrasound I've had so far, my baby has been head down this whole time. Or at least he/she flips that way whenever I have appointments.

  • I asked my dr at my 33 week check up if she was head down. She said it didn't matter anyway because he still has plenty of time to move. She doesn't even worry about it until 36 weeks.

  • Idk, this one was head down at 28 weeks...as of Monday my cervix is still closed tight.  Head down is a good thing though, hopefully all our babies stay that way.

  • Ok cool....I'm not one to normally freak out over things, but I had to ask on this one, since my son was 3 weeks early, and I don't remember the dr. ever telling me if he was head down before or not.

    Thanks ladies! :)

  • I had to have an u/s at 26 weeks, and my LO was head down.  I still haven't had her yet, so I don't think it's a sign that yours will come early.

  • My little one was heads down from 24 weeks to 28 weeks. Then she turned transverse and has been there most of the time (sometimes she will turn heads down). I think at this stage the baby is still finding a comfortable position which may not be the same position they are in at birth.

  • She definitely has plenty of time for turning over and over again. DS was always head down from early on, and dropped relatively early, and I was induced at 40w3d.

  • This baby has been head down since 28 weeks. I see no other signs that this baby will come early.
