Is anyone around that can help me with this? I am putting in my notice tomorrow because of essentially a hostile workplace. I don't want to elaborate in my letter-I just want to keep it simple. I was planning on working through the holidays since finding coverage over the holidays is hard enough plus we just had another nurse quite, so they are already struggling to find someone to cover her. Is there a way I can phrase that?
I was thinking "I am writing to inform you of myresignation from XXXXX, effective January 2, 2011. Iwill be happy to continue working through the holidays as I knowfinding coverage over the holiday season is especially difficult." What else do I need to add? Anything? Is there a better way to phrase this? TIA!
Re: NTR: help with resignation letter wording?
I'm in management, so I receive letters like this all the time. I would say less is more. I probably wouldn't even include the piece about staying through the holidays to be nice. To me, that feels a little bit like twisting the knife, which might be purposeful since it sounds like you're unhappy in your job. In my opinion, that's a tiny bit unprofessional, but that's just me. I would just state your last day, and if you have it in you, say something about appreciating the opportunities you had while an employee there. If you can avoid burning any bridges, that's best. You still might need a reference someday. And you can certainly have a conversation with your manager about the reason you're leaving. He/She would probably appreciate the feedback.
Sorry so long. Best of luck!
