Eurobath-owning mamas: Help!

We ended up getting the eurobath for a transitioning tub and we used it with B for the first time tonight. He kept crying =( which surprised me because he usually *loves* his baths (laughing/smiling the whole time).

Well, I guess the thing is that he tends to kick a lot (aka the whole time) in the bath, but the way the tub is shaped or something, all the water goes right back into his eyes. So after several splashes, his eyes were getting red and probably irritated from the water and he started crying =( so we took him out. Are we doing something wrong here? Maybe we should fill it up with less water? but I don't want him to get cold...or should we have had him sitting up on the "bigger kid" side instead? We had him semi-reclined in the infant section since he's such a skinny baby that MH insisted we put him there since he fits.

Re: Eurobath-owning mamas: Help!

  • A's in the infant side and although he splashes his feet around, he doesn't seem to get much water in his eyes.

I only fill the water halfway, b/c I don't want it going into his ears when he's reclined back and the water waves about. To keep him warm, I pour water over him as he plays or leave a warm wet rag on his belly. (It's not that cold here.)

I also don't put soap in the water, though DH does. I put the soap on the wash cloth and only use that when he's getting close to being done playing. Otherwise, he'll end up drinking it when he plays! Then I unplug the tub and, as the soapy water drains, I pour fresh warm water over him to rinse off before he gets out.

Sorry, that ended up sounding so technical! I would just experiment and see what works for you. I really love the bath and hope B starts to enjoy it too!

  • ditto pp on only filling it up about halfway.  I also only put a little soap in when I'm filling it up just to get some bubbles, but I use soap on the washcloth to wash him.

What were you using before?  DS has used this exclusively since he was born, except when we're traveling of course.

We had a bath luve which he really loved, but eventually we didn't use it anymore - I guess when he was sitting all the time), and he's been fine without it.  (I'd offer to send it to you, but i have no idea where it is and our closet for him isn't exactly organized, sorry!)

It might also just take him some getting used to since it's new to him - the whole experience of the bath in a different space could kind of freak him out.

exactly what melissa said and then this too.  when we traveled we put A in the regular tub and first few nights she cried! she didn't know what to make of the big tub LOL

if you look on the "big kid" side of the eurobath you'll find a line that says "do not fill above this line" ...it's basically just a tad above the "arm rest" on the infant side if you are looking at that.

i don't put soap in the water either, just on the wash cloth. i also don't use the drain for the water...it's faster and easier to just tip it over and dump it out after i've taken her out of the bath :)

i still put A on the infant side b/c she still fits too :) for the most part she is sitting but when i rinse her hair i like to have her laying down so i tell her to lay down and then tip her over into the reclining position. i found that if i did this w/o telling her first, she'd freak out b/c i would catch her off guard!
