colostrum in pumped breast milk

I started pumping right out of the hospital to get my supply up. I'd bag the extra milk at the end of the day and freeze it. Now that we're starting to use it, I'm noticing my milk from September (LO born Sept 18t) is much more yellow in colour than my milk from now. Is is still safe to feed my little guy or should I get rid of all the pale yellow milk? TIA!

Re: colostrum in pumped breast milk

  • I had this same thing occur.  My husband gave DS a bottle of the yellow milk around 5-6 weeks and he spit it all up.  We were concerned that it was too rich for him, fortunatly we have a large freezer supply so we tossed the rest of it.

  • I had tons of colostrum from when I was in the hospital that we brought home (plus milk/colostrum when it was first coming in). The pedi told me to go ahead and give it to her at her 1 week appointment and use up the stash. We thought maybe we should save it for when she was sick/needed more nutrients but the pedi said it wouldn't make a difference.
