Holy Expensive Butt Cream, Batman!

Aaron's diaper rash is still going strong, so I called his pedi.  The nurse said she'd call in a Rx cream to the pharmacy. I'm thinking it will be $50, which is our "max" copay usually.

Nuh-huh.

It was $100!!!!!

I told the pharmacist to put it back.  Thankfully they did.

Maybe my pedi has a sample? Or I'll try some OTC stuff and will stop by BRU to get them (Triple Paste has been recommended.) His rash isn't AWFUL... it's just not great.

Yikes.

  • Hundred-dollar butt paste?  Sheesh!  Did they even have a generic option?

  • No generic.  The retail w/o insurance was $300!!!

For a tube of tush paste!

I didn't want to pay $50 but I figured I was saved a copay ($25) with the nurse calling in the Rx and thus I'd suck that up. But I'm not sucking up $100.  Ack!

  • Give Triple paste a try first. I've found it to be a butt saver and much cheaper. You can always upgrade to the $300 stuff later.
  • Robyn I use Weleda Diaper Cream which I get from Whole Foods. Someone here had recommended it awhile ago & it's the only cream I use now. It's like $16. I once saw it on sale for $6.99 & like an ass did not buy everything ont he shelf.

  • That's insane!  Why does stuff like that need to be so damn expensive.

When I was pregnant I was having stomach acid problems.  Doc called in a RX and it was going to be something like $200 for 10 pills or something equally ridiculous.  I refused it and the Walgreen people were very nice about it.

  • Holy crap! Will it potty train him or something?
  • WOW! And I thought my anti-wrinkle night cream was expensive!  I agree with Stever - for that $$, should help potty train him!
  • My little guy has had a bug, too, which resulted in a bad diaper rash.  Triple Paste worked great.  He is home today with a cold & runny nose.  The pedi thinks it is teething (which I am finding out they blame for everything), so I am not so worried about it.

There is no reason a butt paste should cost that much. Period.

  • Ouch! That's expensive rash cream. I'd call the M.D. and see if there isn't a cheaper alternative. If it cost that much I doubt it's just regular old rash cream. Did it have a topical antifungal or corticosteriod to help with healing?
