Pregnant after a Loss

Are betas supposed to double in 48hrs?

I had my betas tested on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. They were 5,395. (At 5w2d.)

Then, I had the second set today, at around noon, and they were 8,272. They didn't double. But, my OB said they looked good, that they didn't have "time to double."

I'm confused. I thought they were supposed to double in 48 hours? Is it ok, as long as they are increasing?

  • They can take 48 to 72 hours to double. Also, I'm not sure of the number, but at a certain point, they don't double for 96 hours or so. If your doc seemed happy, I would just go with it. :)

  • They stop doubling when they are that high. The draw was only to see if they increased, I would think.

If your OB isn't worried, generally speaking, then try not to let yourself worry.

  • From what I have read and been told today, it takes longer for them to double once you reach 6,000. HTH

  • I think those are great numbers nothing to worry about. Congrats!

  • Thanks ladies. Somehow I always find something to worry over regardless. I'm going to try to stay calm now until the first u/s.

    Thanks again!

  • Doubling time is 48-72 hours but it slows down significantly as you come to an end of your 5th week.
  • Mine were 8,000 something or other and then 11,000 something or other 48 hours later and we have been progressing right along. As others have said once they reach a certain point they don't necessarily double anymore. If your doctor is happy with it then you should be too! Congrats!
