Clothing size ? - WWYD

We had Evan's 9 month appointment yesterday and he measured 19 lbs 12 ounces and 28 3/4 inches long. The 12 month clothes that we have say they fit 20.5-24.5 lbs and 28.5-30.5 inches.

Should I go ahead and start putting him in the 12 month size even though he is at the bottom of the height and doesn't weigh enough?

We have a bunch of long-sleeve/winter type stuff in size 12 and he will get more wear out of them if we start using them now. We have some stuff in the 9-12 month size, but I would prefer to not go buy a bunch of stuff in the smaller size if I don't have to. (Oh, and he is at daycare which has all tile floors that can get pretty cold.)

  • I say as long as they arent swallowing him, put him in the clothes you have.  Cason is about 20lb and he wears anythign from 6-18 months depending on brand.  I've found the weights to be useless in most cases.

  • Absolutely.

Viv was 18 lbs 6 oz (!!!) at her 4 month checkup and 26 5/8 inches. I dress her in a lot of 12-month clothes because of the cloth diapers. Some of her 9-months fit great, others are tight. She has a long torso though, so I end up rolling her pants and sleeves.

  • If he's 9m months now,. I would NOT go buying anything else in 9 months unless he didn't have anything to wear.  But since he has so many clothes to choose from in the 12 month, just go with those.  I am pretty much just now putting Eden in 6-12 months outfits and at 9 months old, they aren't totally swallowing her.

  • I would use the 12 month, as well.  Things also shrink in the wash, so they might fit a little better, then.  Especially since he isn't walking -it isn't as if he is going to trip on them or something.

we did a lot of folding, too - at the waist, or arms, or legs.

  • Good advice, ladies. I'm off to do a load of laudry to get his new clothes ready for him. I'm excited to see him in them. I picked out more "little boy" looking clothes an can't wait. DH still wants him to look (and dress) like a baby.  :-)

That's so funny. My Dh was so opposite. He was so ready for the babyish clothes to be gone and loved little boy clothes.

  • Same thing we should do for ourselves - ignore the size on the label and wear what fits well!

Both my kids have been tall and skinny. DS was 31" at 6mo and a relatively skinny 21lbs. So going by the size weight/height chart they have both been in weird places on the clothing labels like 9mo by weight and an 18mo by height... heck at one point DD was 18mo by weight and 3t by height so no dresses fit her at all they were just too baggy or too short.

I just have to find what fits... which is 18mo onesies for torso length, 12mo shirts because 18mo is too baggy, and somewhere inbetween 12 and 18mo in pants because 12mo is way too short and 18mo is way too long.
