BF question

DD has been a great feeder from day 1. She latched on great, took in enough milk everything. For the last few days now when I try and feed her she will latch and eat for maybe a minute and then pull off. I try re-latching and again the same thing. I thought maybe she wasn't hungry so I'd try burping/changing/playing but she wasn't happy until I fed her a  bottle. Is this her rejecting the breast?? DS never did this and I don't know what to do....

Re: BF question

  • No advice but my DD started doing the same thing, I refuse to give her a bottle though. Sometimes she just needs to be burped other times I just have to keep trying and eventually she stays latched on.

  • DD went through that around 3 mos, too. I thought she was teething and checked for thrush, but she was just having a fussy few days. I asked on here, too, and got similar replies.

She went back to feeding fine after a day or two. I always just offered the breast first and if I felt she didn't get enough, I would supplement with pumped milk. The only good thing is that your DD will hopefully go from breast to bottle easily. I'm happy mine does now that I'm back at work.

It seems like she is sometimes more interested in what is going on around her than eating, so we also try to go to her nursery where it's quiet and calm.  GL I know it can get pretty annoying...

  • 3mos is when they start to get really distracted while nursing.  Try nursing her somewhere dark & quiet.  Sometimes even just DH talking to me is enough to make DD #2 pop off and get disinterested.

  • DD has recently started doing this occasionally.  I've figured out that she's just getting distracted by what's going on, so I've started just feeding her in her nursery where it is quiet and still.  No more catching up on my DVR'd shows while I feed her!
