Stocking Question

Shauna's post about her PBK stockings reminded me of this, and forgive me since it's been asked before.

Did you order extra stockings for your possible future kiddos? Or are you of the mindset to wait til your family is complete before you order? Or just hope that they still make the ones you want?

I feel silly ordering 6 stockings when I really have absolutely no clue if we'll have four kids or if Anne will be an only child.

When we got our last year, I got an extra. I figured if we ended up with three kids, I could get a new set and it would be a fun excuse to go shopping again.

Now, if you're not sure you'll have one or four kids...I'd probably wait. Holyshit, I can't imagine 4 kids.

Good point about the excuse to go shopping again!

And yeah, I know that's a big range. I would say that fertility issues aside, we're sure we'd LIKE more than just Anne. But I kinda maxed out my clomid ration (unless drs. decide that it's safe to do more) and we haven't discussed other options since we figure we'll cross that bridge if/when we come to it. As far as exactly how many, that depends on how the next few years go as a parent as well as the financial picture for our family....you know, like wanting to send our kids to college and everything.

I made ours, so I ordered extra felt so that I'll be able to make more. I have enough extra to make three more, so I've told DH that we can't have four kiddos because our stockings have to match. DH thinks that I'm crazy about what he calls my "christmas ornament rules." The way it was done in my family, you get one stocking, and that will be yours forever. We have our own for our house, but the one at my parents' is from when I was born.

DH's mom is not like this at all, she completely redoes her tree every few years, and I think that she's had four sets of stockings since I've been with DH (10 years). I'm just such a sap about things like that, I guess I don't deal well with change Stick out tongue

I bought a set of 5 that I LOVED at target a few years ago. We've used them for our animal children (but don't actually put anything in them and they're not embroidered). Now I'm thinking about getting another set that we'd embroider. If I do, I will order a set of 4. If we have a 3rd child, we'll just get more/different stockings.

We didn't. We currently have the Land's End needlepoint stockings and they're available every year.

When our family is complete, we'll order our "forever" stockings. Until then, we'll just order a new one when we have a new member of the family.

I waited until we were pretty sure that we were done...and we had settled on a name for baby #2 because I didn't want to take a chance that the embroidery wouldn't match (anal much?) But I hope that PBK will keep making these and if by some chance we decide to have another, I'll just hope that they are still around.
