Working Moms

Work Vent

I recently transfered within my company because DH accepted a job/apprenticeship across state. So we packed up and moved away from all our friends and family in order to make this work. Up until now we have always both worked full time and had immediate family watch our son ,but now I have cut back to part time and switched to an evening schedule in order to work around DH's schedule and be able to avoid having to get a nanny or daycar (nothing against either of those choices, it is just something we are not ready for until he is older) Except now my work keeps bringing up the fact that they would like me to work more and if only my son was in daycare and blah blah blah. I feel like I am being looked down upon for choosing to opt out of childcare. And now it is almost like they are punishing me for it, they cut my hours in half of what they were already cut down to and keep scheduling me outside my availability and when I call them out on it they just say "Oh I forgot you had it changed."

Re: Work Vent

  • What is it that you do/ your company does?

I ask because your making this about the fact that you have kids and dont' want daycare, but I wonder if this new schedule/ arrangement just doesn't work w/in the confines of what it is that they need you to do for work.

In the end, your childcare situation really isn't your jobs concern.  That's why I ask about what it is that you do, etc.  That might change my take.

  • I think your company is trying to tell you that the current system ain't working.

Maybe they would pay for your daycare, and take some of the burden off?  I know that there are probably other reasons factoring into your decisions here re: daycare, but that might help.

Seriously, people. If your faith in humanity is destroyed because your parents told you there was a Santa Claus and as it turns out there is no Santa Claus, you are an ignorant, hypersensitive cry baby with absolutely zero perspective. - UnderwaterRhymes
  • I run a shoe department in a retail store, which I willingly offered to step down to any position they wanted me in if my availability was going to be a problem. As far as daycare goes it's not the money at all, it's more of a comfort issue. We have never had anyone besides us or our immediate family watch him and that is how we would like to keep it until he is older.
