Working Moms

Going back to work on Monday. :(

I don't normally post but I'm having a lot of issues with the thought of going back to work next week. I figured I'd jump on here and hear what some of you ladies have done to ease back into work. I just need suggestions.

I have been off work for 9 weeks. I love the company I work with, but I hate the branch I'm at. This would be so much better if I liked my branch and the people I worked with. DH and I have gone over everything over and over and over agan and I just can't quit work. Believe me if I could I would...

I just need some advice to make this easier... :(

TIA

Re: Going back to work on Monday. :(

  • Since I don't have the option ofstaying home, I just reminded myself that I'm doing it for my family. I never want my DD to go without if I can help it.

I enjoy working. It gives me a break and I still pump so I think of her and still 'care' for her away from home.

  • You will do fine!  Don't make any decisions right now, just get through next week.  I had a terribly hard time coming back and I have a job I love, and a great role.  Hang on tight and get through week one.  Then you can figure out what you need to do to make it better, maybe look at another branch, different job, etc.  But right now it needs to be about making it through.  GL we'll be here.

After being back for a few weeks I have been able to really find a nice work/home balance.  It takes time and I'm still a bit stretched but I don't want to be a SAHM like I would have paid my left arm for when I went to first go back.

  • ONe thing that I do, is keep a mini journal in my desk and I write reasons why I like working, and why i like my job, how I am setting a good example of a working woman, and how much we can afford to live life with 2 salaries for us. When I need a quick reminder or I have a fleeting thought about staying at home with baby, I read my mini journal and it re-frames my mind, and I feel good about my decision for my family.

The first few weeks will be rough, but you'll settle in and be happy with your routine.

  • good luck! is there a way you can be transferred to a differnt branch? the reality is thinking about it and preparing/getting ready is actually worse than actually going back. once you go back it won't be so bad. take pictures of your LO and put them all around you, put them on your phone, etc.
  • Thanks ladies! I appriciate the help. After reading everything ya'll have mentioned has kind of eased my anxiety. I love the idea of writing all the good things about work and everything. That is going to really help.

I requested a transfer to a different branch when I went on ML, but was told I wasn't allowed to do anything work related while I was gone... But that's another issue all in itself. 5 positions opened up within 2 weeks which is very unusual with the company I'm at. (We have about 130 employees) Oh, but one of those opened positions was filled by another girl that was on ML... anyways... had to vent a little... :)

But thank you all for the advice!
