can't handle my prenatals with all the nausea

hi, all.

I've been soooooo nauseous that I either can't bring myself to take my prenatal or I just puke it up. my diet is crap right now, because I'm so nauseous, so I'm worrying about my little one getting enough nutrients. I'm close to calling the doc about this.

 anyone else?

  • Have you tried taking kids' vitamins? I had a hard time with prenatal vitamins, and my doc said it was fine to take 2 chewable (like Flintstones) vitamins every day instead. Hope you feel better soon!!

  • I was told by my doctor to switch to taking 2 chewable Flinstones at night.

  • With DS, I had to take my prenatals at night. Any other time of day, they'd make me sick.

  • I totally agree with all the PP- vitamins make me sick in general.  I take mine before I go to bed now and I don't have any problems.  Give it a shot- it might help!

  • Have you tried the prenatal gummies?

  • I should have mentioned... I have tried taking them at night. :-(

two flintstones sounds like a possibility... my DS takes them, so I already have them!

     thanks!

  • I was concerned about this as well and spoke with my OB who said "prenatals are more for you then the baby..the baby gets what it needs" So take them when you can or opt for Flinstones like I have but dont stress much over it
  • Target has gummi prenatal vitamins that are actually pretty tasty.  My OB also recommended two Flintstone Chewable Completes a day

Otherwise, eat what you can keep down and don't worry about it.  The baby is so small right now that it's able to get everything it needs from you  :)

  • If you can't keep anything down you should call you doctor to give you something for the nausea.  I am currently taking Zofran for my nausea because it is out of control. I take my prenatals right after I eat.
  • Just have to take them. It definitely sucks, I dry heave before and after.
  • Like everyone has said, take kids vitamins that taste good to you. I had hyperemesis with my last pregnancy and for about 6 weeks I lived on italian ice, mac & cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. I was SO sick I ended up hospitalized, home health care with IVs 24 hours a day, midline IV (like a picc line), tons of meds including steroids.  If it gets bad, tell your doctor and don't let it get out of control.  But your baby will take what it needs from you so don't worry about it.  Baby gets everything it needs even if you don't seem to get what you need.
  • I switched to the gummy vitamins from Target for the same reason and not only are they actually tasty, they help my nausea because they're a little sour!  I just make sure to eat a vitamin fortified cereal (Multi-grain Cheerios have 100% of most of your RDAs) as well, that way I cover all bases.  :)  If you don't trust the gummies, the generic Target brand pre-natals (they're pink) are coated so you don't smell or taste vitamin.  Take them b4 bed and it should help?
