Teachers...???

I am newer to this board and did an intro a couple days ago about my m/c, but I really didn't introduce myself! Today I was reading and noticing some of you ladies are teachers or substitutes. I just wondered who here fit into this category, it's always nice to talk with someone who gets your job and can relate...

So about me. I am a Kindergarten teacher and have been for the past 3 years. Before that I taught first grade for 3 years. I love teaching the little ones, but Kdg is VERY challenging for me. However, I tutor a group of 9 2nd graders after school and they are challenging in a whole new way! But, I love what I do and am thankful for my job everyday. My DH is also a teacher (5th grade) so it's great that he understands all my stresses and we are great support for each other. We have been together for 10 years, married for a little over 3. Everyone tells us that teaching is the perfect BC- obviously we don't agree! We can't wait to have our own children Stick out tongue

Well thats me, I'd love to get to know you now!

  • Hey there fellow teacher! I am licensed PK-3 in Ohio and when we moved to TN I had to get my licensed transferred and have yet to find a job in a "school' setting.  However, I'm a PK teacher assistant at Head Start in Knox County ... I am hoping to be bumped up to a teacher here soon :) Fingers crossed....so I know how challenging that age group can be.  Our kids run from 3-5 (mostly 3s and 4s though...).  Some days I think.. "Are you SURE you want to have kids" But those are only when I'm dealing with the kids taht have severe behavior problems...I don't know what I would do what I would do without my little work rugrats!

  • I teach 7th grade language arts.  But today, we had our yearly sex ed guest speaker.  Yay, 7th graders and condom discussions.....I need a drink.
  • I'm a teacher.  I teach 1st grade this year after teaching 5th for the previous 5 years.  There are definitely things I like about 1st grade (smaller class sizes, less attitude) but I miss the 5th graders' independence!

  • I loved first grade, but now I am thinking it had a lot to do with the class sizes. When I taught 1st I had between 16-19 kids. This year in KDG I have 26! It's way to many! And to me, 1st graders are sooo inderpendent (compared to my kdgrs, haha).

  • I teach 4th grade. I'm on my 9th year of teaching elementary, but I taught preschool all through college and grad school. I guess that means I'm going on almost 15 years of working with kids! Though I usually love it, this year has been tough. The kids in my class are so incredibly sweet, but now I'm up to over 1/2 the class being ELL. The kids try so hard but they are all about two years below grade level, and there is SO much pressure put on us to get them to pass the big state test this spring. Apparently I'm expected to have them make 2+ years growth in the next couple of months. Yeah, we'll see how that goes. Sorry for the mini-vent there, I'm just frustrated.

  • I teach 2nd grade. Not loving it so much this year. I teach in a really rough part of town and have a rough group of kids this year! But I love my kids...just not my job right now if that makes any sense! Welcome to the board!
