Toddlers: 24 Months+

So what age do you think....

My 2 -almost 3 year old can go to before she will figure this potty training thing out on her own and just get up one day and go to the potty?  Because at this point I have tried everything and she will just not potty train..I cant even get her to actually sit down on a toilet at all.  She knows what it is about.  She says she wants to do it.  Bribes, treats, 3 day methods, ...nothing works.  She laughs at me.  So how old do you think she can go for..LOL.  I am seriously thinking world records here..

  • My son is 3 next month and we haven't even attempted it. He knows what it is, has a potty, and just laughs about it as he poops in his diaper several times a day. So I haven't even tried yet. He just isn't ready and has made no effort on his own. I would let it go for a few weeks and try again after the holidays. We are going to try after his birthday in January or February.

  • Well kinda. Big signs for us were she was starting to stay dry at sleep times, was asking to wear her big brothers underwear (so we let her, it was a sight, lol!), and she actually starting coming to us when she wanted to get "cleaned up." No pressure, it took her two weeks in panties and she was PT. It easier to PT when you "know" they are ready. Daycare was actually fed up with me putting her in panties, because she had several accidents a day at first, goodness, what do you expect within the first week or so, they almost forced me to put her back in pull-ups, but I said no, let's give it a little longer, and low and behold after that brief meeting, she no longer had ANY accidents. Hmmm...
  • I don't think 3 sounds weird at all IRL - its just in nest/bump land that all babies are potty-trained by 2!  I would be concerned if a 4 y.o. wasn't potty trained, but at 3 - not at all.  Even at 4, I wouldn't be taht concerned

  • My DD is about the same age and she is still not potty trained.  We haven't really made a big push for it yet.  She is just finally to the point where she minds being in a poopy diaper.  I figure we will try the 3 day boot camp method after the holidays.  Was originally going to try it earlier but I just don't see the rush.  I know it seems from the nest like most kids are fully trained by 2 but most I know irl don't fully potty train till age 3.

  • My oldest didn't PT until she was 3.5.  She was ready, and it was a breeze.  DS is almost 3 and isn't even close to being ready.  Try not to stress.  When she's ready she'll do it.

    DD3 - 3.28.11
  • Don't stress. It goes a lot faster when they're ready both physically and emotionally and the two rarely happen at the same time. As a daycare/preschool teacher I've trained my fair share of toddlers, besides my son, and 3 is not as uncommon as you may think. They all have their own schedules of when they're ready if you try and force them before then they usually dig their heels in and it's cranky anxiety all around.

  • 3 to 3 1/2 is the average age for PTing.  I wouldn't stress over it.  When she's ready, it WILL happen.  I promise.
