So I had my RE appointment today after being diagnosed with endometriosis. The RE was extremely knowledgeable (he has been doing this for 40 years).
So first things first. He wants us to do some additional testing. He wants DH to get an SA and for me to get blood work done and to get a sonohysterogram (I had to look this up). Basically it is completed after menstruation has ended and before ovulation occurs. The timing of the procedure allows for optimal viewing of the uterine walls, since they are at their thinnest at this point in a woman's cycle. They also fill you up with a little bit of water to help them look around. I found that pretty interesting. He really wants to rule anything else other than endo out.
After all that is finished and completed the next steps will be determined from there. If they dont find low sperm count from DH's SA and he doesn't find anything with me, he is thinking about putting me on FSH for a few months to start. If the increased level of FSH doesn't work he was thinking of doing IUI (artificial insemination) and if not that, then IVF. His whole approach is to get me KU to treat the endo rather than going on horomones such as Lupron or putting me through any additional surgery. He was also a little concerned that I haven't gotten pregnant after being off birth control for a year and a half. Even though we weren't actively trying we weren't really preventing either (were were kinda just using the pull-out method
).
Needless to say, I am very excited we have a plan and I really hope and pray that this will work for treatment of the endometriosis pain and also to help me get pregnant. He seemed very optimistic, even called this an "easy case," so I feel like this new plan is the second best news obviously other than being pregnant. I am on cloud 9! DH and I are celebrating with some wine & more Dexter.
Thanks for all your support thus far. You have all been great!
xoxo
