Is Hemnes dresser too tall to also act as changer?

After reading the recent post about Ikea's Hemnes dresser, I'm seriously considering getting one for our nursery.  I already have one in my bedroom, but when I look at it and imagine a changing pad on top I get the impression that it may be a bit tall to also use as a changer (which is what we're planning to do with any dresser in the nursery). This is also my first child, so I have no idea what appropriate changer height is. What has your experience been?

  • I think it's fine. I know I've heard of a lot of girls on here using it. I just randomly googled changing tables and their heights seem to be around 34"-37" tall so it's only negligibly taller. I might have a problem being 5' tall but I can't visualize well. :)

  • I don't think so.  We just put ours together on Saturday and it seems like the perfect height for DH and I.  I'm 5'6" and he is 6'.

  • DH and I are both taller (I'm 5'10", and DH is 6'), and we've decided on a Hemnes dresser too, the 8 drawer one.  Is that what you're talking about?  Or the 6 drawer one?

  • Not at all, I am 5'0 and I LOVE the fact that I wont have to bend over to change him, I can stand up normally and not strain my back!

  • I'm 5'2" and I think it's a little too tall for me, but we'll see how it goes. If I find that it's too tall when baby is here, I'll just change him/her on the floor.

  • Thanks! We have the 8 drawer dresser and would get another. I'm 5'7" so sounds like I'd be okay.

  • I am short and will be using the dresser as a changer. I am looking forward to not being huched over during changes. This was why I went with the Hemnes.

  • Hi ladies,

Popping in to reminisce about what it was like to plan a nursery, etc. :)

We have been using the Hemnes 8 drawer dresser for our changing area for 6+ months now, and I love the height.  I'm 5'2" and my husband is 6'1". I like that it's a bit higher, everything is right in front of me. The width is perfect for the changing pad and the storage room is fantastic.

In fact, I was just saying to my husband that I might like to get another one to use as my dresser in our room!

  • We got the 6-drawer for our nursery and I had the same concern when we picked it out at the store.  However, DH wasn't concerned and he usually has a good eye for that stuff so I think it will be fine. I'm 5'6".

  • We have the 8 drawer.  It is the PERFECT height for a changing table.  It's tall enough to easily use.  I love that I don't have to bend over at all.

LOVE the dresser, in general.  I told DH that I'm sad we didn't get those for us...

  • I'm 5'5" and had this concern before as well.  It works just fine for us.
