TTC after 35

What day do you usually ovulate?

Hi all... Just wondering if I am losing my mind.  I always thought that ovulation occurred approximately 14 days before your next period.  I am not due for that until Dec 27th.  So I was guessing I would ovulate around Dec 13th.  2 days ago, Dec 6 (CD7) I had sharp stabbing pains on my left lower side abdomen.  The next day it was just kind of an aching pain.  Today I feel fine.  Could I have ovulated already?  Anyone ever ovulate THAT early and had it lead to a pregnancy?

Re: What day do you usually ovulate?

  • The time between ovulation and the start of your period ( luteal phase) can vary a good bit from person to person- usually 10-16 days. But I would think CD7 would be really early to ovulate unless you normally have 21-24 day cycles. You might try using OPKs or temping next cycle to better pinpoint ovulation. Click on someone's fertility friend ticker to get more info on temping.

  • If I didn't start temping I would never have known I ovulate earlier than the "traditional" day 14.  The past three cycles were Day 10 and Day 12. I haven't gotten pregnant so I don't know if ovulating early is a bad thing...It definitely makes for less waiting though!

  • Temping would really help you figure out what is going on with your cycle.  For me I always ovulate on day 14 or 15, (like for years), but on Clomid I ovulated on day 17 this last cycle and my leutal phase has actully increased by 2 days, (my average is 15, but today is 17 dpo and I am BFN and am spotting so AF will be here tomorrow).  Fertility meds can make some women ovulate early though, (just not in my case).  Not sure if that is what is going on with you, but just trowing it out there.

  • I usually ovulate between CD17 and 19 though I usually have around a 28-32d cycle (my LP is a little on the short side ~12 days). I did not know this until I started temping and using OPKs. Now that I do know this, I am going to lay off the obsessive data collection a little bit as it tends to make me too anxious throughout my cycle.

  • Thanks all!  I guess I will just assume that I have not ovulated yet and hopefully will make something happen this month.. I have been ttc since Sept 09... It would be a REALLY nice Christmas gift to finally be pg this month... :)

  • I would recommend reading a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It will really be insightful as to how the female body works when it comes to TTC. O'ing around CD14 is not the norm.

  • check out our charts in our signatures...charting is the only way to confirm ovulation.

I have O'ed as early as CD 14 and as late as CD 20.
