I need to attend a rehearsal dinner on NYE and the wedding itself on New Year's Day. It is likely to be cold and is in an urban area where we will probably have to park and walk a distance. I have no suitable nice clothes for that time of year and I don't want to spend a ton on a couple of new outfits that I might not wear again.
Suggestions? What would you wear? And if it makes any difference, both of my kids are in the wedding so I'll have more involvement in the proceedings than the typical guest.
Re: What to wear to winter wedding?
Do you have a long wool coat? If so, I break that puppy out. I wwould think that a skirt with tights and boots would be appropriate with a silky blouse, or a wrap dress with boots would be nice too.
My sister is going to a new years wedding too, they are not happy about it. The bride doesn't care it's practially National Football Day
No, I do not own a dress coat and I loathe the thought of spending the $$$ on one just for this occasion. Sigh.
I did just order myself a pair of tall brown boots. Maybe I can find a wrap dress or something similar to wear with them.
How about a sweater dress with those boots? Like a red/burgandy/plum would look good. Do you have Cato in B-town? They have some cute sweater dresses for like $30 or so, then maybe a pashmina-type wrap...which they also had in the $20 range. The clothes are high-quality, but will get you thru the day, and a few other occasions.
Long winter coat is the way to go. Doesn't have to be specifically dressy, you're taking it off as soon as you get there, just as long as it's not like a ski jacket or something. The key is that it needs to be long so you can wear a dress and not freeze your behind off.
I'd wear boots if I was walking a lot and then bring nicer shoes with me to change into once inside. It's all outwear for me. As for the dress, I'd wear what I'd wear to any other wedding, plus add in a wrap/scarf of some kind.
My only coat is a ski jacket and I do not own a single pair of dress shoes either- I just simply don't have a use for those things in my day to day life. This is looking like it could get expensive.
And FWIW, I have only been to a handful of weddings in my adult life and I have no idea what I'd wear to a typical wedding either, LOL.
