Is this "taboo" in the mommy world?

To approach someone's nanny and ask if they babysit on the side?

Today we went to Tumble Gym for the first time (it was great) and there was this really nice woman there with 3 kids and then she was telling me about another older child. I just assumed she was the mom but then she said she was the nanny. She was SO attentive and positive towards the kids and even to Jocelyn (she kept encouraging her and tell her "good job") I just got a really good vibe from her. Well, I am going to do the class the rest of Dec and was thinking about asking for her info just in case we ever needed someone to babysit. Would that be weird? Would it offend her? I don't know how to go about it?

  • I don't know why that would be taboo.  Sounds like she would be a great babysitter.

  • I think it's perfectly fine. How else do you meet good babysitters?! Every babysitting job I got when I was younger came from referrals from other moms or other moms asking me if I would be interested in babysitting their kids. It's a free country and you are free to ask whoever you want to babysit IMO. :)

  • Definitely not taboo! You should definitely inquire if you were impressed with her.

  • I don't think so... I'd just ask, and if she has some specific allegiance to the kid she nannies, and/or has some contractual reason why she can't, I'm sure she'll tell you. I hope it works out for you!

  • I don't think it's taboo at all.  Our nanny babysits for others on the weekends.
