Hawaii Babies

I need baby handcuffs...

So LO poops like twice a week or something, which is good because I don't have to deal with poopy diapers everyday...but it's also bad because when he DOES poop, it's like WHOA!

Which is fine, because I usually catch it right away and change him before it gets too bad, but then he LOVES to reach down and touch his butt when I'm changing him! I'm trying to keep him from rolling off the changing table (little squirmer!), trying to wipe/change him, AND trying to keep both his hands off that poopy butt! and I'm screaming "NOOO!!!! DON'T TOUCH IT!!!"

Does any of your LOs do that?!? How do I get him to stop?!?

Re: I need baby handcuffs...

  • I have no advice, I need a baby straight jacket for changing diapers! She's a mover and a shaker and it's like getting a gymnast dressed while she's doing backflips!

On a side note: Bella's started to figure out where her "girl parts" are and won't stop looking at them when she's in the tub! She touches them and giggles and then looks at me... like she knows she shouldn't be touching them... weird huh?! She's only 16 months old, how do they know!

  • oh man...the fun stuff we have to look forward to! :) haha

K is starting to move around more on the changing table; and his new favorite thing:  trying to grab at whatever is closest to his hands and quickly shove it into his mouth before mama can get to it.  This week, he's managed to get a diaper and wipes and a tube of lotion into his hands (on separate occasions) while I'm busy cleaning off his bum!  It's been "fun" to say the least! ;)

  • Libby's a squirmer during diaper changes too...I keep a stash of "changing table only" toys that she only gets during diaper changes. Right now, we're in a rotation of two different beanie babies. Keeps her interested long enough to get the job done! Honestly, I've also talked to her about staying still so we can get the diaper changed quickly and strangely enough, I think she understands because she's stopped twirling over and over like a crocodile and will lay there with just minimal fussing and LOTS attention to the toys!
  • BAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry - we have this problem too and I have NO idea how to stop it. Will loves grabbing his butt and recently Dash has taken to making sure the family jewels are still attached every.single.time we change him. The only thing I've been able to figure out is to change him sideways vs me being at his feet - that way I can kind of lower myself a little and block arms with one of my forearms. It doesn't always work, but we've been able to avoid handfuls of poo, anyway.

Haha, B checks the family jewels too =P but it's also poopy (hence the WHOA I mentioned) and of course, what does he try to do after getting his hands poopy? Bring them up to his mouth! I've successfully stopped him everytime thus far and wiped down his hands but I'm not sure how long I'll stay successful! I'm gonna try that side-forearm thing next time he poops!

  • I also do the sideways changing and have a little gymnast who is constantly trying to flip over and sit up.  He's at the point now where he sees the changing table and starts crying and arching his back.  Over the weekend I kept trying to tell him everytime we changed his diaper that "this is your changing table - we need to change your diaper.  Mommy needs you to stay on your back so you can get clean and feel better in a new diaper".   I think it worked sometimes.  But I do the forearm across the belly trick too a lot.

I was just talking to a coworker about this and she said her son is 2.5 and still does this.  UGH!

this is us too, I grab a fresh diaper and he starts with the gymnastics.  I try to reason with him but it only works occasionally and sometimes can get him interested in a toy.  He doesn't usually have anything gross to reach for because I take him to the toilet immediately every morning and he pees (a large amount) and poops so that helps because that is generally his only poo episode per day BUT that presents its own problem, he stands up while I wipe him off and then always wants to turn around and look in the bowl and occasionally leers towards it like he wants to touch it.  GROSS.

If he goes poo again it happens at daycare so then it's their problem, haha.

  • Oh yeah, it's SO gross.  The only thing that worked was me changing her on the floor between my legs so i could basically hold her her arms down w/ my feet or sometimes if she had a toy or book in her hand, just something that kept her hands occupied, it would work out.
