When is your toddler's bedtime?

I feel like Ava has been getting to bed so much later than she used to.  Right now her bedtime is usually around 10 p.m.  I don't really mind it except that I worry that maybe I'm doing something I shouldn't be by letting her stay up that late.  I've tried scooting it back, but even if I do actually get her to go to bed any earlier, it is not a routine we end up sticking with.  I've read and been told that a preschooler should be getting 10-13 hours of sleep per night, and she gets that overall between her nighttime and naptime sleep, so does it really matter when bedtime is?

  • Jacob doesn't go down until 10-10:30.  We run a late schedule around here, always have.  Since I have a flexible work schedule and care is provided in our home, he doesn't have to wake up early.  That said, he usually sleeps until 8:30-9:30AM; and he still takes a 2-3 hour nap, each day.  It works for us.

  • Noah goes to bed at 8 and some days it cannot come soon enough!  He's been at that bedtime since he went down to 1 nap....which was around 14 months I think.  Bath starts at 8 and he's usually asleep between 8:30 and 8:45.  He wakes up between 7:30 and 8 and takes a two hour nap on average.

He would definitely be fine staying up later if we let him, he never really acts tired....but he doesn't fight us on it yet, so we're sticking to it.  I thoroughly enjoy getting at least 2 hours of me time once he's in bed!

This exactly, except for the days she doesn't take a nap, I try and get her in bed between 9-9:30.

  • Bren goes down at 8.  Any later, and she gets all kinds of nasty.  I REALLY think she needs another hour of sleep.  She is worn out at 7, especially on days that she went to "school".  But putting her to bed at 7 means I won't see her some nights, because I don't get home until 7:30 or 8.  So, I am being a bit selfish by keeping the 8 pm bedtime.  She wakes at the same time in the morning, no matter how late we put her to bed.  Seriously, we have had times where she goes down at 11, but still wakes by 7am, like clockwork.  This is a struggle for us.

  • I don't think it matters as long as their getting enough sleep and not cranky or overtired.

Noah goes down between 7:30 and 8. Personally, I need time alone with DH and would not enjoy him up that late even if he would be fine with it Stick out tongue

  • We try to get both boys in bed by 8:30 most nights.  Justin is a master procrastinator, though, and by the time he's done brushing his teeth, reading stories, etc., etc., it's usually 9 or a little later.  I know he doesn't go to sleep right away but I think he's usually asleep no later than 9:30.  He sleeps till somewhere between 8-8:30, so he does get close to 11 hrs of sleep.

I personally don't think it matters for the kid what time bedtime is, as long as they can sleep as late as they need to in the morning and can nap for as long as they can.  However, like some others have said, I need "me" time to decompress after he goes to bed, so I make an effort to get him down a little earlier.

My other motivation for keeping bedtime a little on the earlier side is because believe it or not, he will be starting school in a couple of years and will have to stick to a scheduled wake-up time, which means he needs a regular bedtime to ensure enough sleep.  I figure there's no better time than now to get into an earlier bedtime, because it would be a struggle to move it back when he's a little older.

  • Nathaniel goes to bed at 8pm...wakes up about 6am.

If we do a later bedtime, he wakes up earlier.  No lie.

  • between 8 and 8:30.  She usually wakes up between 7:30 and 8AM.  She also takes a 2-3 hour nap each day.   She must take after me - need lots of sleep!

  • we have never really had a schedule due to the nature of DH being in school and my work schedule, but he typically goes to bed between 9-10, but will go earlier if he did not have a nap that day.  So, in a way we have sort of worked into a flexible schedule I guess.  He sleeps 11-12 hours at night, and most days naps for 2-3 hours.  If he doesn't nap he makes up for it at night when he goes to bed.

  • Olivia's in bed by 8.  Mostly b/c that is when she starts having her meltdowns and goes willingly.
  • Jack sleeps 8- 8. Last night it was 8:30PM - 8:45 AM. No nap.

When he napped, it was bedtime at around 9:30 or so. I love the earlier time.

  • 7:00-7:30 and she sleeps between 12 and 13 hours. Also a 2 hour nap. I think as long as they get enough sleep it shouldn't matter when it is

Exactly this!  Once again, our kids are like twins.

  • Little Bear starts going down around 9 and is asleep by 9:30pm. Since he wakes on his own, normally he is up around 8:30am. He still takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon

  • Ryan is in bed by 9:30/10 at the latest. She usually sleeps until 8-8:30. She rarely naps anymore. We have tried getting her to bed around 8:30 but that is when Sam is going down and we like to have a little time with just her after he is down. I think she enjoys the mommy & daddy attention too.

  • Madelyn's bedtime is 8 or 8:15 each night. Since I have to get her up so early through the week (6am) to get to school and the sitter on time, this time is a must for her. She takes one 1.5 hour nap during the day at the sitter's, so she is always ready for bed at her usual time.

  • When we were having transition to toddler bed issues, bedtime was a strict 8:15.

Now that he's better at sleeping in his bed, it's 8:30 ish...  Most days he doesn't nap.  He gets up around 8 each morning.

  • Maggie goes to bed around 8, give or take a few. She's up between 7:30 and 8, and naps from 2-4 (or 3-5, depending how long she frogs around in bed before falling asleep).

  • Allie goes down around 8:30 each night, but we're not overly strict about it.  She usually wakes up anywhere between 8:30-10am.  She still takes a 2-4 hour nap in the afternoons.

  • My little one goes to bed everynight at 8:30 and that has worked great for us.  She is usually up by 7 or 7:30 and that time is regardless of what time she goes to bed.
