Putting away outgrown clothes, how did you do it?

I need to put away their baby clothes that don't fit anymore. How did you orgranize them? Did you put them in bins, or in bags? Did you label them?

I am not a very organized person, I would rather throw things away than find a place for them :)

  • Spacebags!!!! I have them by size and gender....one bag for 0-3 boy, 0-3 girl, 0-3 gender neutral, then 3-6, etc.

  • I used the diaper boxes.

Everytime they outgrew something, I washed it and tossed it in the box.  As the box gets full, I sealed it and tagged with with their age.

A little easier for me since I only have boys, no need to separate b/g.

  • I had bins in their closets! Once I noticed the outfit was too small I would wash it and throw in the bin. Once the bin was full I would mark it with gender, season, and size. It was the easiest way for me to keep track of three kids worth of clothing!

BTW, the reason for the heavy-duty plastic bins is b/c we have mice in our attic!  Wanted them to be mouse-proof!

This (although I'm behind on the last outgrown size or two). We store them in our basement storage room. I keep a plastic tote in her closet as well and just put clothes in there as she outgrows them. Some sizes require 2 totes because she has way too many clothes!

My friend just had her 2nd child and she said she kind of wishes she had stored the clothes by season as well, since her 2nd daughter was born in the spring vs fall and was much bigger than her 1st. I'm not going back and re-organizing but I might consider this for future outgrown clothes.

  • Bins. And for things I did not love or would not use again that were in good shape, I consigned it at a local babies & maternity consignment shop to get it out of my small house.
  • 30 quart Rubbermaid space saver tubs.  They're a nice, small size so that I could easily lift them.  See through to know what's in.  It takes about 2 per clothing size to store everything I have.  They're rectangles, so they stack well.  I did by clothing size (or when DS wore them, so they're some 0-3 in 3-6 and vice versa, etc).  I labeled each one with a large mailing address label with what's in it and size.  For socks, I put in a small zippy bag to keep them contained, in the size bin that was appropriate.

  • I've put them in clear bins, and organized by size.  That way they are organized and ready to go for the next one, or to lend out to friends.

  • i use those zipper plastic bags that sheet sets or comforters come in...labeled with sizes.  i figured this was cheaper than buying bins...
