Parenting after a Loss

I fell with the stroller today

Ugh.  It was only a matter of time before this happened, but we haven't even been back two weeks!

We were going up a ramp from an underpass.  THe ramps are two separate ramps - one for each stroller wheel - and there are stairs in between that you walk up when you're pushing.  It was snowing and the stairs were slippery, and I fell and went spread-eagled on the ramp.  I kept a hold on the stroller, and thankfully DD1 was securely strapped in, because she was almost completely upside down!  Thank goodness, too, that DD2 was home with the nanny.  I usually wear her when we go out and she would have hit the stairs too.

I'm fine, but I banged up my knees and shins pretty good.

It's really hard to go anywhere around here without having to navigate an underpass, but now I'm scared to do it when there's snow on the ground!  Ugh.

  • I'm glad you two were okay.....maybe you could get those ice-hook thingy attachments for your shoes for when its icy?  I had to use those in Mass and Ill a lot when I'm up there....it helps prevent killing myself.  They have ones that go onto normal shoes, or you could get just winter boots?

  • Oh my gosh!  I'm glad you are both ok!!!  That sounds treacherous in the winter.  Like pp said, would you shoes make a difference?  Can you avoid that area when you go out?  If you ever get the chance you have to take a pic of this contraption.

I was wearing my boots!  They just make the stairs out of a stone that gets really slippery when wet.  And it's basically impossible to walk more than a half mile in any direction from my house without having to navigate a ramp.  Ugh.

  • Scary! Glad you two are ok, hope your knee and shins feel better. Those ramps sound crazy!
  • I'm so glad you're okay! That must have been so scary. Those ramps sound awful. I hope your bruises feel better!
  • Gosh, there have been a lot of falls/accidents lately since I posted about mine yesterday!

I am so glad that you are okay, and that you weren't wearing your other LO.  I know from experience now how scary that would have been.  I hope your scrapes and bruises heal quickly.

  • I worry about this all the time with DS. He is heavy and we live in a townhouse with stone stairs that go up to our front door. The garage is on our basement level but I make DH park in there since he does daycare drop off and I want the car to be warm for DS. I have this vision of DS in his seat, me slipping on the stone and both of us in the hospital with broken bones. Our neighbor 2 doors down did this with her LO and we saw it happen. It was so scary.

  • I'm glad you're ok. That's scary. I'm terrified of ice. I can drive in it but am so scared to walk on it. I hurt myself pretty bad once in a fall. Be careful out there!
