My ticker's wrong, LO is almost 12 weeks and I'm thinking you ladies might have more advice on this than those with NBs.
I never thought I'd say this, because I've always loved to eat... but I think I'm having trouble taking in enough calories to sustain my BM supply. I ate healthily during my PG and stayed very active, although I did overeat toward the end, but I didn't care. I gained almost 60 pounds, much of it water, which is very normal in my family. All the women are of average, fit build and gain a lot during pregnancy, but all have BF'd and lost it easily. I've already lost all but 15 pounds.
Since having the baby, I've had no appetite, which is very unlike me. Initially I wondered if it was my body's way of spurring weight loss. I actually have to force myself to eat. It's a horrible feeling, like I'm going to be sick if I take another bite, but I know that I have to eat. On top of that, with the baby, I tend to forget and time flies. Normally it wouldn't be problem because I'd get hungry and therefore remember, but I never feel hunger anymore. On a couple days I had water and a cup of coffee and before I knew it, it was 2pm and I hadn't eaten yet, nor did I want to.
I had an awesome supply when people were around after DD was born and I was making meals, but now that I'm on my own (my DH is often out to sea), if I'm not careful, I'm only really eating one big meal and a few light snacks during the day. My supply has tanked a few times, and as soon as I really increased my food intake, my supply went up again. LO seemed to be getting enough, although she was eating more frequently when my supply dwindled. Has anyone else had a lack of appetite after delivering? I'm trying hard to eat something for every meal and to eat nutritiously and drink fruit smoothies, etc. I just never thought I'd struggle to take in enough calories. I always heard BFing women talk about how hungry they were and how awesome it was to eat everything in sight without weight gain! I never thought I'd be unhappily force-feeding myself.
Re: Having trouble taking in enough calories...
This! I was just like you with never eating during the day, but then one day I was soooo hungry, and it just continued. Your body will come around and you'll want to eat again!
I am so, so, so sick of eating. This started while I was pregnant and has continued now that I am breastfeeding. I work from 9-5 so it's a little easier for me to plan lunch and snacks throughout the day. When I was home on leave, it was difficult to make sure that I ate enough throughout the day. The only thing I can suggest is to get yourself on a schedule. This will ensure that you'll get enough calories to sustain your milk supply. You can eat healthy, small meals like yogurt and fruit, oatmeal, cereal, bagel, sandwiches and then have a big meal for dinner. I snack on fruit, nutragrain bars, nature valley granola bars, and cookies (no, i don't care about how unhealthy they are-LOL!). I also drink a TON of water.
