Thanks for all the feedback on Lane (for a boy!) yesterday. Many mentioned that they prefer the spellng Layne. Is this a legitimate spelling? I despise the random added Y, for no reason, but was curious if this was another, relatively common spelling of the name. Thoughts? Which do you prefer?

I've never seen Lane spelled with a y before, but it looks like it has been steadily gaining popularity since the 80's (according to babynamewizard.com)
I still prefer Lane.

Lane is a little feminine already... Layne really sounds feminine is likely to be pronouced Lane-e.
This. DH's mn is Lane. I know a Layne it's a girl.
