Did you have trouble conceiving #1 (or a previous child) and then find that you were pregnant again easily? It took us nearly 2 years to conceive #1, and we would love to have another relatively soon to have them close together. DH and I are talking about coming off of BC when DS is 6 months old. I'm just wondering if it's common to have trouble conceiving and then no trouble for later pregnancies. I never did any fertility testing to find out why it took so long. I know you all are not my doctors, just wondering if there were any success stories out there. I'm really hoping it happens more easily this time around than it was the first time.
TIA! Maybe I'll be on this board one day if things work out. ![]()
Re: Question about trouble conceiving #1 and trying for #2
It took us 21 months to conceive DS1 and only 2 cycles for DS2. We did not receive any treatment either time. I was charting my cycles and tracking ovulation. I had many many anovulatory cycles with DS1 so I assume that was the trouble.
Best of luck to you!

A lady at my DS's daycare had a hard time with the first and then had a "surprise" with DD #2 a few months later. I think for some women the 1st child gets everything back in order (ovulation-and your menstrual cycle)
DD was concieved with IVF after nearly 2 years of TTC.
DS was concieved the month I weaned my DD. I got one period and then got pregnant. We weren't trying but for obvious reasons weren't on birth control.
BFP with no treatment!
DD- 15 months
LO#2- 3 months of "trying" at the fertility clinic (med-free cycle though!)
You never know how pregnancy is going to affect your hormones, cycle, etc. I hear a lot of people who had problems the first time around find that they get pregnant easier/faster with #2.
Also, beedale- that's the cutest friggin' thing I've ever seen!!!!!
A friend of mine has PCOS and Endo and tried for 18 months with 1 failed IVF for her son. She tried one time....not one cycle but one time of having sex this last time and is pregnant again. Like other said, you have no idea how pregnancy is going to affect your hormones!
For us it took about a year to get pregnant with DD#1 and 9 months and one m/c to get pregnant with DD#2.
DS was conceived after 19 months on our second (and last before moving on to IVF) IUI.
DD was conceived when DS was 6.5months old, right after I weaned DS. I never even got a pp period. We weren't exactly "trying" since we didn't know what my cycle was doing without a period, but we weren't using BC either.
Good luck!
2 years and lots of treatments to TTC #1.
Never got on birth control. Didn't want one more thing wacking out my hormones again.
Weaned early (7 months) and was SHOCKED to conceive with my first real ovulation.
I've had 2 more unmedicated conceptions since then but they haven't worked out for us.
GL to you!
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
It took us over a year and two rounds of Clomid to conceive DD.
I got pregnant with DS when DD was not quite 3 months old. Obviously, we weren't trying, but it was a nice surprise to know we didn't have to go back through all the infertility stuff again!
Yep. See my siggy for all my crap
3 ectopics and 2 yrs to concieve #1...she was actually a twin, but the other one was ectopic and removed while i was about 8wks prego (along with one of my tubes and ovaries).
Then...6months pp i'm prego again! DD#1 was exclusively breastfeeding and i only have one tube/ovary...A miracle!
ETA: I'm back on the pill now
After trying for over 2 years, with a year of fertility treatments & 2 iui's later DS was born.
I weaned him at 8 months, had 1 cycle & now we're expecting DD.....they'll be 19 months apart.
We would've never thought it would be this easy on round #2.
