We love Trumpette, and they really aren't too pricey. I think it's $25 or $30 for a box of 6. The patterns/prints are adorable and they last for a year for sure.
I don't know the name of the socks but Babies R Us carries them and they are great. They have little balls that go around the ankles. I want to say maybe the brand is booties but I'm not sure. They come 6 to a pack and I believe cost less than $10.
I am amazed at the socks I picked up at BRU. I can't remember if they're miniwear or koala baby brand. They are size 0-2 months, and they even stay on DS's newborn feet! They came in a 6-pack, not in a bag but hanging on a little hanger thing.
Mom to J (10), L (4), and baby #3 arriving in July of 2015
Msister gifted us a set of Puma athletic baby socks and they are amazing! I think she got them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. They never, ever, ever come off and super cute! They are all he ever wears. I need to go buy more soon as his feet grow.

Old navy's socks are the best. Pack of 8 for 12.99 I think. DS has super long skinny feet and these are the only socks that fit his length and stay on.
Re: Socks that stay on feet.
I've heard raves about Trumpette, if price isn't an issue for you:

I was going to try them until I learned I'm losing my job. Guess I'm stuck with no-stay socks for now...
I love Trumpette and this brand, which is similar and also stays on quite well.
