Random delivery ?--esp. St. V gals

When you started pushing, did you use stirrups, or did you have to hold your own legs.  I had to hold my legs for every.single.push--two hours worth--and it sucked!  There were stirrups on the bed, so I was really confused why I couldn't use them.  They give free massages at St. V's after you deliver, so I had them massage my arms.  I never would have thought my arms would have hurt the most after giving birth!

  • I did not deliver at St. V but I didn't use stirrups either.  A nurse held one of my legs and DH held the other.

  • I did not deliver at St. V. either but I didn't use stirrups.  DH held one leg and my mom held the other.  I can't imagine having to hold my legs myself.

  • Hmm, interesting.  Maybe they made me hold mine so I was more involved or something.  However, I felt pretty darn involved. Wink  I was so worn out afterward.
  • I guess it was sorta like stir ups - I call them leg holders...haha.  They werent like you could press your feet against them if that makes sense?!  but yeah Christie i kinda remember holding my own legs and it felt like holding onto dead weight because of the epidural.  I got a foot/leg massage if I remember right and it felt awesome!!!
  • My mom held one leg, and DH held the other. Then they had a bar that they wrapped a sheet around and I pulled on that.

    This exactly.

  • I didn't deliver at St. V's but I held my own legs (for most of the pushing). I was actually able to hold them up and move them around pretty well considering I had an epidural.  I only pushed through 3 or 4 contractions so my arms didn't hurt. I think it helps you to curl your body around appropriately to get the baby out more efficiently....but I don't know.
  • I was at Carmel St. V's, and same as Laura--nurse had one, DH had the other.  He was so tired since he works nights that a few times I had to hit him to wake up!  LOL

  • I did not hold my legs. I don't recall what I did to be honest.  I wasn't really focused on that :)
