Contractions, Effacement, and Dilatation...Oh My!

Last week, I thought I was just having painful BH. It turns out, they were REAL contractions! I went to L&D to be safe, and I was 1cm dilated. Yesterday at my regular OB appointment, I was told I was at 1.5-2cm and 60% effaced. Is this possible? Can you be that effaced, and dilated so small? I'm glad I'm progressing, I'm just concerned that I'll be too effaced, and not dilated enough (if that's possible). Call me stupid or whatever you want, but books don't cover the possibility of this senario and this is my first pregnancy.

    I was 95% effaced and 2.5-3cm dialated at 37.5weeks. I gave birth at 38 weeks.

    Thank you! I really have tried to find an answer for this situation/question, but couldn't find it. I called my OB, but she doesn't call back until after 5. I just couldn't wait for a response.

    Wow! I hope I progress quickly like you! Our EDD is 12/24 and I don't feel like being in the hospital for Christmas!!! A day or two early works for me  Smile

    Yes, with DS I was 60-70% effaced and 2cm. Stayed there for 2.5 weeks.

    I was completely effaced but not dliated any for weeks with my daughter. But once I did go into labor, I progressed VERY quickly.

    I'm so glad I read this post.  I was 1 cm dialated and 75% effaced last week at my appointment, and as of this morning I'm still 1 cm dialated and now 80% effaced.  I'm hoping she decides to stay put till at least the 18th.  I have too much freakin stuff to do!!!

    Just so you know a comparison.... I was 2 cm dialated and 90% effaced for 2 weeks before DD decided to finally show up (I went a week of my due date). So.... you could sit there for a while.

    Thank God!!! I'm still not ready yet. Almost done with the home remodel, and nursery still not put together!
