2nd Trimester

Question for 2nd time moms!

I'm trying to figure out what brand diapers I want to use for the baby so I can start buying some... It's between pampers or huggies. Which do you prefer?? Have you ever had any problems with a certain brand? I know it kinda just depends on the baby but i'm just curious

Re: Question for 2nd time moms!

  • We just went with the cheapest.  We started with Pampers and moved to Huggies at size 3 because of Sam's Club pricing.  We didn't have any issues with either.

  • I have 3 kids (boys) With my experiance Pampers was always the way to go! They always leaked out of huggies! I'm talking one pee and it was everywhere lol! But idk what it would be like if it was a girl! Maybe the boys "part" was just positioned the wrong way lol! But i def love pampers! Never had an issue plus the newborn ones are soooo cute and soft :)

  • In my experience, Huggies were a lot more leak-proof than Pampers... I am a Huggies mommy for as long as we keep having kids!  The only time I had issues with Huggies was when it was time to move up to the next size.  :-)

  • I started out using Swaddlers, and they worked until she moved into the regular Pampers sizes. Then they leaked horribly. We bounced between a few different kinds we'd gotten as gifts, but ultimately landed on Target brand diapers. That was over a yr ago. Still going strong with the Up and Up brand.

  • Honestly it just depends...

DD has always leaked from huggies but did great with pampers. She had a severe allergic reaction to dry-max so we started gdiapers but I still use pampers baby dry at night (no dry max). Kirkland tends to fit more like huggies.

Point is every baby fits diapers a little differently. I loved the feeling of swaddlers (so soft) but huggies pure and natural were similar just very $$$

  • I plan on using Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive when baby is a newborn, then switch to Target brand when he/she gets older. That's what we did with DD, and it worked out well.

  • We've only ever used Pampers......love them.
  • I wouldn't stock up on one brand.  You never know what will work for you and your baby.  Between Huggies and Pampers, I preferred pampers before they added the drymax.  I preferred Luvs to both before we switched to cloth though.

  • We are Pampers during the day and Huggies Overnight people.  DH hated the generics so I gave up on them.

I suggest getting a cheap subscriptiont to Parenting/Parent mag.  They have 20% off diaper codes for Amazon, add the amazon mom price and I haven't been able to find diapers even close to a better price.  Plus they deliver right to your door.

  • buy ONE packet of newborn Pampers. See how the baby likes it. My DD is allergic to Pampers Sensitive wipes for example. But likes the Pampers better than the Huggies.
  • I have a 3 year old son and I also run a daycare center out of my house. I have never like Huggies for boys (they always seem to pee through them) and I only like them for girls when they get a little older. I do love Luvs, but Pampers are the best for the newborns if you want my opinion. I switched to Luvs after the about size 2 dipers. A lot of parents I have for daycare have switched to the Parents Choice for their toddlers and I have to say that I hate Walmart and I did not like their dipers for my son, but they have impoved a lot (at least for the toddler age). I choose Pampers especially because I would rather pay a little more to not have a diper that leaks everytime the baby sleeps. It was worth not doing so much laundry.

  • Pampers for NB and size 1. After that I'll probably go with Target brand or Huggies (from Costco).

  • We used Luvs with both DD #1 and still use them for #2 and will use them with #3.
  • We use Luvs.  They are very similar to Pampers Baby Dry but a fraction of the price.

  • We use Pampers. I personally hate Huggies. DS leaks through them EVERY time.

  • We CD (mostly) but used Pampers at daycare...until they changed the inner lining and he started getting a rash. Now we prefer Huggies Little Movers and Huggies Overnights at night.

This is what I would recommend.  I would maybe have 2 packs of Pampers newborn swaddlers.

  • We went with Huggies b/c the newborn size has a bit more of a roomy cutout for the bb stub than the Pampers. We did try Pampers around 5 months when she had the "month of the blowout," but she blew out of those even worse than she did the Huggies.

Added bonus: Huggies are sold at Costco. W00t.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • I liked pampers better for the tiny stage because they were soooo soft.  As she has gotten older I have tried others and they all seem to work well.  Huggies are nice once they are mobile.

    1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.

  • Don't buy too many of the same kind right away. DS leaked through huggies every time! We swore by Pampers swaddlers until he outgrew them. (it was a sad day) :) Target sells size 2-3 which he was in for a long time! I've never seen them anywhere else, but I live in a small town.  Now we use the Target brand or Luvs and love those too. But for the new baby we will use Swaddlers again. They are so soft.
  • Pampers Swaddlers were the BEST at the beginning!
  • I love Pampers diapers and huggies wipes. I hated Huggies diapers, they always leaked on dd.

  • We use pampers. Mostly because as a pediatric nurse that is what I was used to and liked them, and also b/c they were the ones used in our hospital on DD. She never gets diaper rashes so we stuck with them!
  • I'm a Pampers mom, I hate Huggies.

  • We use Target Up&Up and have never had a problem.

We've also used Luvs which are great, but they have an odor to them that is a little off putting.

Pampers work better for boys over huggies, IMO. But I wouldn't waste the money on them since you're just going to throw them away, soiled.

  • We used Pampers Swaddlers until size 3 then moved to the Cruisers.  DD did not react at all when they switched to DryMax so we'll probably use them again for baby #2 to start out with.

Buy two small packs of a few different brands and try them out and see what you think about fit and how they hold up to your LO's powerful liquid poops.  We tried to use Huggies twice and DD blew through them in minutes - plus I didn't like how cheap they felt in general.

Besides, with coupons and sales and promotions - if you shop smart you can get Pampers for the price of the cheaper ones.  For example, Babies R' Us will do a giftcard deal if you buy two cases - then you can use their coupon and a manufacturer's coupon in the same transaction.  Score!  Plus after 9 cases you get a coupon for the 10th free!

  • We used Pampers until a few months ago. They're great, I love them but they are a bit more expensive.
We switched to Huggies just because they were on sale at Costco, I wanted to give them a try... they also work great, no complains.
To my surprise, the Babies R us brand are also OK. I bought a few packs a couple of weeks ago when they were on sale, 82 diapers for only $10 Surprise... no leaks, no rash, they're actually OK. I may stick to them specially now with my second LO on the way, the more we can save the better.
  • We're a Pampers family... I have never had a single issue with them, and I trust the brand.  I'm very brand-loyal, though.  I never gave any other diaper a chance, so I can't compare.

  • I prefer Pampers by far.  Huggies seem flimsy IMO and I have never liked them when I tried them.  There are certain Pamper's diapers I don't like either too though..in the beginning we used the swaddlers and after that we went to the baby dry's..we still use those and I love them, I tried the Pampers cruisers once and returned them the next day.

  • We use Pampers. We've tried Huggies and they leak, and Luvs always resulted in gel all over DS.

  • Huggies didn't fit my son very well until now (he wears a size 4), so we were strictly a Pampers Swaddlers/Cruisers until size 3.  Now I buy whatever is on sale.

I wouldn't stock up on too many.  You never know what will work for your child or what size they will be when.  If you do buy ahead, buy 2s and 3s.

  • I really liked Pampers for a long time, but recently DS started getting rashes with them so we switched to huggies.  In the end you just have to try them and see which works best for your kiddo.

  • I liked pampers swaddlers, while he still fit in their sizes and was really little.  He blew out of every Huggie I put him in at that point.  Once he started eating solids and was moving around, I liked Huggies better.  We now switch between Huggies and Costco's Kirkland brand.  It depends on which one is cheaper / has a better coupon.

  • I use Costco diapers, but have used both Huggies and Pampers.  I prefer Huggies.  Pampers are a little thinner and therefore a little less bulky, but they are scented, and if your baby has sensitive skin, all of that perfume is no good.
