Changing Table vs Dresser

So I am still debating on getting a changing table. At first I swore I needed it, now with all the other things we really do need, I'm wondering if it is worth the $100+ cost. We have a dresser so I could put a changing pad on top of it ... Is there a big benefit to having an actual changing table? TIA

Re: Changing Table vs Dresser

  • I personally think a changing table is a waste of money and space in the nursery. I have a changing pad on the dresser and it is working perfectly. Especially since half the time, my LO gets changed somewhere in the house other than her room. :)

    Yes

  • I also think it's a waste of money if you are already getting a dresser.

     this.

Oh I just noticed LO's name! Cute Harry Potter name! (also my dad's and grandfather's)

  • I would just throw a changing pad on top of the dresser.  That is what I did and it is working great.  I didn't see any benefit to a changing table except extra storage for diapers and wipes, and for that I just use one of the dresser drawers.

  • I went through this same debate. We ended up doing a dresser w/ changing pad on top. I love it, works same as changing table and it's a dresser that we can us in DD's room for a very long time. I did have a shelf that I put right next to the dresser to put diapers/wipes and stuff on. Very happy with it!

  • changing tables=waste of $$.  Dresser is great!
  • I think it's only worth it if you don't have a large enough surface area that is high enough to be comfortable for you. If you do have such a space, you don't need a changing table.

  • We are getting both but only so we can have the storage space of open shelving and dresser drawers. We usually throw a changing pad on the bed (or the floor or the couch) and change C there.

I did not know it was a Harry Potter character's name until recently. Dean is my dad's middle name and Thomas is my FIs middle name. Funny how it worked out :-) I might have to watch The Harry Potter movies now :-)

  • Thanks ladies! I think we are going to save some money and just use the dresser. I kind of wanted the extra storage but I'm sure I can find something for storage that is less than $100+.
