Parenting after 35

update

Hi all,

Thank you so much for all of the support, I really am doing OK, as long as I don't, say, accidentally see the "welcome new family member" cards first while I'm looking for a card for my 2 year old's birthday, grrr.

We had our RE consult yesterday.  I'll probably give more details in the TTC35+ and secondary IF boards, but the gist is that we are treating it as a chemical pregnancy, seeing the upside that we conceived, while recognizing implantation wasn't fully successful.  So.

-My AMH and egg reserve came back really good, actually, particularly for my age, so if we wanted to pursue IVF (which we really can't afford), at least I would be an excellent candidate.

-Most of the rest of my blood work, though, wasn't good, particularly my male hormones and projesterone were virtually nonexistent, so I am taking DHEA which is sort of the parent hormone for all of them. And after ovulation I'll be giving myself HCG shots.

-I'll be getting an HSG done and DH will be doing an SA.

-And continuing acupuncture.

Phewph! Hopefully this will work relatively quickly!

On the plus side, I think it would have been ridiculously difficulty to keep a muzzle on DH about our pg over the holidays with our moms, but it would have been waaay too soon to say anything, so perhaps it's for the best, too, particularly if getting through the first tri might be riskier than last time since my hormones have changed so much in 3 years.

Anyway, thanks, all for the support, it has really meant a lot to me!

Re: update

  • It is wonderful you have such a positive attitude but it sounds like there is reason to be optimistic even without IVF.

  • Lots of positives there! That's how I looked at my CP too. I was sad, but then I thought at least I can get pregnant and we tried again. Hugs to you still. Hopefully you will get another BFP soon that is sticky.

  • Glad to hear that any problems seem treatable. Wishing you the best of luck in the coming year.

Here's to 2011 pregnancies and babies (hopefully!)

  • That's a lot of good stuff and the stuff that's not so good sounds like it's relatively easy to remedy.

Me too.  I was nervous about changes since I am 40 now, so I was said but saw it as a positive also. Now that we aren't TTC for the moment, I kind of take comfort in the fact that we did get a BFP.

I think it's great that you have a plan and awesome about your accupuncturist getting it right. I got accupuncture to help me go into labor. :)
