How do I sleep train DH?

A question asked only partially in jest...  DH was out of town this weekend and we bed-share so A and I had the bed to ourselves.  We both slept great.  DH is back and he snores...all. night. long.  He wakes both of us up.  It's so frustrating.  He's tried those nasal strips and they work sometimes, he's tried throat spray and that helps every once and while, I seriously don't know what to do with him?  Can I put him in the nursery?  Surely I'm not the only woman walking around brain dead b/c her husband's snoring keeps her up at night?  Right?

Re: How do I sleep train DH?

  • I'm laughing, but it sounds miserable!  Any chance his snoring is helped by his sleep-position?   We used to deal with this (only minorly, though, compared to what you're describing!), and I'd kick, prod, or poke DH - he'd shift positions, and the snoring was temporarily relieved.  We tried all the things you mentioned and ended up getting a contoured tempurpedic pillow for him and, oddly, that's what did the trick!

  • has he had a sleep study? DH had one done a few years ago and he has really bad sleep apnea...he has to sleep with a cpap machine to make sure that he doesn't stop breathing and its blessedly quiet!!
  • Maybe make him go to a sleep center.  Maybe he has sleep apnea.  DH snores too and is on nasal sprays to help open up his nasal passages.  That has helped a lot but he still snores sometimes, but mainly when he sleeps on his back.  I'll tell him to roll over and the snoring stops.

  • I actually think he does have sleep apnea.  And we probably do need to get him into a sleep study.  I poke, prod, tap and well...kick him, many times a night.  Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.  Last night was brutal.  I don't think he understands how loud he is.  I wish he'd try those temperpedic pillows - it's like he doesn't understand how they work, he folds them as if they were feather pillows.  Grrr.

  • I feel your pain. As you have seen on FB, Dh has a cold and it has induced major snoring - it is awful! I cannot imagine going through it nightly.

My SIL kicked her hubby out - he sleeps in the basement - they tried the guest room, but he was keeping their daughters awake.

I would suggest a sleep study and maybe one of those No Snore Pillows from Brookstone?!

  • I feel your pain. I have told DH that when the baby arrives he must use his mouth guard everynight. I got it from The Pure Sleep company or something like that, and it is a mouth piece that he puts in to help hold the jaw correctly to reduce the snoring. It helps as long as he leaves it in.

We tried the pillow from Brookstone, but he moves around too much and it doesn't work all night.

  • You are not alone. DH snores if he's not on his stomach.  But he argues in his sleep when I prod him to roll over.  And I'm a light sleeper.  I'm sure he has some sort of issue, as his dad has sleep apnea with a CPAP machine, and DH isn't skinny (husky with a Pepsi gut), so I'm sure there's more to his snoring.  But he won't listen to me for a sleep study.  And I'm the one who suffers.  :(  I'm always half relieved when he's sick and quarantines himself in the guest bed, as I get so much better sleep!
