Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If you make your LO's baby food...

What food processor do you use and would you recommend it?

I received one for my shower, but just read that it is really only for soft foods that are steamed first.  I was interested in making some baby oatmeal too which would need to be ground first.

  • We made baby food for a friend's baby because of all her allergies and will do it for our son when he is to that point.  We just have a quality blender from a restaurant supply store.  We use our pressure cooker and a steamer to try to maintain all the good nutrients.

  • I use an immersion blender (I think they're also called stick blenders).

  • We did for DD #1 and plan to again, but we never made baby oatmeal.  We use a KitchenAid blender.

  • I use steel cut oats, and they are very tricky to get ground down.  I use a Cuisenart processor and put it through a sifter.  It works pretty well.

  • I plan on using a two cup or 4 cup food processor (kitchen aide or cuisenart).  I have also heard that the magic bullet is the perfect size to make about 2-3 servings.

  • Pampers GTG has or had a small processor for what it's worth.

I haven't used a blender or anything.  I just use the Ziploc Steam bags and then a potato masher.  You could use a coffee grinder for the oatmeal.
