Diaper questions

Bella's been fighting a rash off and on for months, we've been to the dr and they have no idea what it is. They cultured it and nothing grew out. It looks like yeast but it also looks a bit like impetigo. We've stripped her CD's a bunch and she still keeps getting the rash. I emailed Steph from Abby's Lane and she said to strip and rinse my CD's and switch her to sposies in the mean time. I'm not a giant fan of this because CD's are SO cheap and we haven't had issues until now and we're not doing anything different... but I'm not sure what else to do.

CD mama's, any suggestions? I posted on the CD board too but only got 2 responses.

Sposie mama's, what brands are best? I'm clueless about them! Things to look for or avoid? I know want NO perfumes or dyes because that could make her butt worse but they all seem to have a scent to me...

Re: Diaper questions

  • I am so sorry Sarah, that's awful. I hope it clears up soon. Libby's only been rashy a handful of times and diaper cream and naked time always seem to clear it up for her. We have used sposies when traveling and I prefer Huggie Pure and Natural. I've tried Pampers Sensitive, Huggies Little Movers, and 7th Generation and prefer Huggies Pure and Natural over all of them. They do have the gel (so do the others I've listed) but they don't stink and seem to breathe better than the others (Libby gets sweaty with the other ones). I've also never had a blow out or leak using them (but have with the others I've listed). I get them from Target...she's in size 4 and they're like $20 for 54 or something. I use CA Babies Caledula  Cream or Diaper Cream on her when she's in sposies.

  • My favorite 'sposies are Pampers Sensitive, but they do still have a little  scent in them.  We used to use Nature Babycare, and they were great....I don't recall any scent at all.  They're not all plastic-y like a lot of other diapers, too.

  • We also use Pampers Sensitive but we're using Huggies right now. I noticed no scent with the Huggies and a soft scent with the Pampers Sensitive. For more budget-friendly, but also very good, diapers, we also use the Costco (Kirkland) brand--no scents there either and I think they're actually more leak-proof than the Pampers & Huggies (not sure, but we haven't had any leaks with them yet vs we do get some leaks sometimes with Pampers & Huggies). But material-wise, Pampers Sensitive is the softest and I like how the wetness indicator tells you when the diaper is wet =)

Hope her rash gets better soon!!

  • Highjacking the thread a little - what about disposable wipes? What kinds do you all like? We may have a yeast rash right now (to go with the thrush, sigh) so no switching to CDs just yet. And I feel terrible doing a load every other day of just wipes!

For sposie wipes I use the unscented bamboo ones from Walgreens...called Renew Naturals...they are often marked 2 packs of 60 for $5! Of course, I use cloth wipes at home so the sposies are just for travel. I guess if I was using them all the time then 120 for $5 wouldn't be such a great deal.

You can also DIY sposie wipes with paper towels...

This! And sometimes the Coscto/Kirkland brand. And we use 7th Generation (subscribe & save from Amazon) for travel wipes. I've also used Huggies before but preferred the others over it. Oh, and on a side note, don't get the BRU brand diapers. They're really crappy, stiff, and thin.
