A friend of mine is delivering there in a few weeks, and she said that in her tour, they said that they are doing all of the observation in the patient room, now.
Just wanted to chime in since I just delivered my second son there 6 weeks ago. I requested to bf him as soon as possible. Since I had a c-sect, they brought him into the recovery room for me to do so. He was in recovery with me until I told them it was ok for them to take him to the nursery. They brought him back to my postpartum room as soon as I was there. I couldn't remember exactly how long it was, but it didn't seem long at all.

so glad to hear this. I will be delivering there and after hearing this I almost wanted to reconsider and switch to Methodist but love my Dr too much to actually go through with it.
I didn't have an issue with the observation time and I felt like it flew by since I was in recovery, but hearing the PP I'd probably ask to have the ability to BF right away. I was lucky in that it didn't matter - C had a bottle in the nursery before I got to feed him, but he never really cared.

When did she do the tour? We had one about 2 weeks ago and they still talked about the 4 hour observation.
Hmmm..strange - I know it was recently - like within the last few weeks. Well, I think they still do the observation, but she said they do it in the room - so maybe you can request them to stay in the room, now? I would definitely confirm if you are delivering there, but she made it a point to tell me about it b/c I think I was warning her about it previously, or something.
In our childbirth class, which we took in October, the instructor said that you can request observation in your room and they'll try to accommodate you if staffing levels allow it. She also said that even if staffing levels couldn't accommodate the request, that you could still keep the baby with you for probably about an hour or so to do some skin to skin and trial BFing before they took him/her for the observation.
My friend delivered there on Friday. Mandatory separation still in full force and effect! And they even gave her baby a nice little bottle during the separation despite the fact that she directed that the baby was being exclusively breastfed. How "helpful".

Mine was taken away for the 4 hours as well last Tuesday. However the 1st two hours I couldn't have done anything even if I wanted to. I was in the recovery room for 2 hours for my C-Section
Re: Women's hospital doing away with 4 hr observation?
