if your LO has/had a cold...

Did LO eat less when he or she was sick?  DH and I both had a cold and unfortunately DD got a touch of it. It's not so bad--mostly just extra mucus which causes her to cough. She's breathing fine. But she is not interested in eating at all. She is taking about half what she usually takes. I'm  wondering if other LOs have done this too?

Re: if your LO has/had a cold...

  • My DD had the same thing, but she had a little fever with it.  She did continue to eat, just not sleep :-(  Sorry, hope she's better soon.  When my LO had a stomach virus and wouldn't eat the doctor told me to give her pedialyte, maybe you could try that.

  • DD just got over a cold and she deffinately went through that!  I talked to the doc about it and she was going to give me a syringe to kind of force feed her a little.  If she's still getting most of her ounces then she's fine but if she's way down like DD was it's okay to make her take some so she doesn't get dehydrated.  DD's pee diapers started smelling really bad almost like she had pooped but didn't so that was a sign that maybe she should be getting a bit more.  If you use bottles with liners instead of pushing the air out give it to her full and push on the liner some while she's drinking to squirt it in.  I know it sounds horrible and on a regular day you should deffinately not do this but when they're way down ya gotta do what ya gotta do.  We also used a lot of saline drops and the aspirator.  It helped clean out her nose enough that she was a little more interested in the bottle.  HTH!

  • DD has a cold, but nothing keeps her from eating. She loves BFing and her solids. She is sleeping worse though. Her cold is only nasal congestion.

  • When DD had a cold/fever/ear infection she didn't want to eat very much. She ate frequently but very small amounts.
