Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When do you brush?

I was reading stuff on the homepage about brushing your toddlers teeth. I have a 13 month old and he has 6 teeth- 2 on top and 4 on the bottom. When do I start brushing them?

Re: When do you brush?

  • We started around 1 year old.

  • Thanks for the response. Can I ask what you use for toothpaste?
  • We've been brushing for probably 6 months now.... maybe longer.  I recommend starting now.
  • We started consistently around one - she got her teeth pretty late. We use the Orajel toothpaste...but most times I just wet the toothbrush and brush as I have heard teh toothpaste isn't a big deal at this age.
  • We started brushing her teeth when the first ones came in.  We use Orajel, which is flouride free and it comes with this little brush that fits your index finger.  Dd now attempts to brush her own teeth using her index finger....lol!

  • I've been brushing her teeth since they first started coming in...back in June.  We use baby Orajel tooth and gum cleanser.
  • Around a year. She has 2 with 2 breaking through now.

  • I started  brushing her teeth when they first started coming in around 8 months old.  I use the flouride free infant/toddler toothpaste I think its colgate.  She loves it.  I brush them real quick and then let her finish.  When I say ok lets go brush your teeth she goes straight to the bathroom and starts knocking on the door (we have to keep it closed to keep her out of there...)

  • We've been brushing his teeth about 4 months or so now. We actually use a baby toothbrush we got from the dentist awhile ago. He actually had his first dentist appointment today and they told me to use a toothpaste that had fluoride in it. It will not hurt them unless they have like a whole tub.

  • As soon as L got teeth I gave her a wet washcloth to suck on, and wiped her teeth twice a day until she was comfortable with me messing with her teeth. At 9 months I began using a toothbrush with water only. At a year, I began using infant toothpaste that is fluoride free so it's safe if swallowed. They sell it at Target, Walmart, and drugstores where the adult oral care items are.
